Default "Emmanuel Macron's Address to Congress Was Full of Criticism for President Trump"

"French President Emmanuel Macron critiqued the nationalist rhetoric and policies of President Donald Trump in his address to Congress Wednesday"

“We can choose isolationism, withdrawal or nationalism,” Macron said in his first address to Congress since his election last year. “But closing the door to the world will not stop the evolution of the world”

"He made no attempt to hide his disappointment with the Trump Administration for its list of proposed tariffs, its expressed desire to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, and most notable, its withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement."

"“I believe in building a better future for our children, which requires offering them a planet that is still habitable in 25 years,” he told Congress.

“There is no planet b,” he added, a line that garnered reluctant applause from many Republican lawmakers, while the Democrats laughed and cheered"

"Macron directly disputed Trump’s argument that trade imbalances should be cause for withdrawing from multilateral agreements and imposing tariffs, arguing that the latter would ultimately decimate the middle class by destroying jobs and increasing prices, and was inconsistent with a commitment to global security."

Noting like getting the rug pulled out from beneath you infront of your own Legislature, chalk another one up for America's image in the world bought to us by the Trump Administration, seems the bromance was all Trump

Like all con men, Trump thinks that because he is an easy mark, so is everyone else. Just because Macron behaved in an adult, civil, and diplomatic fashion earlier did not mean that he agreed with Trump's agenda -- although you can be sure that Trump believed that he did.

    Bravo, Monsieur Macron!

"He kissed the ring," he just dissed Trump not only in front of Trump's own Congress but before the American public, guess your version of "kiss the ring" includes embarrassing the President, guarantee the Don was seething after that one

Macron is in the shit back in France, sadly you're far too parochial and ill informed to know that.

Macron and Trump are both nationalists, but that's about the end of it. I have no idea why Macron wants to stay and "shape Syria" - it's a fools errand, and we are in no position to shape anything there.

Macron wants to "improve" Paris- but what's the chance of changing India and China from developing nation status?
    none.

Trump's work on trade is an incomplete, but China's aquiesence is big

I can just see the steam coming out of trump's ears after that! Here's what he wrote before the speech.

Does anyone but me actually feel that President Macron is now the leader of the Free World, since nobody likes or respects our Arrogant Orange Hog, and he clearly is just not up to the task?

Macron, and Merkel as well. Both are actual leaders who conduct themselves as people of power and dignity, with no need to bloviate and bluster to appear "strong."
