Without China's full cooperation and involvement, there is no chance of success in any talks.
@ United States - Trump & North Korea - Kim Jong Un summit: should Trump invite China to attend? Audit? Participate?
If you'll pardon the over-simplification, North Korea and therefore Kim Jong Un (KJU) is China's puppet.
For Trump to attempt a summit on Korean denuclearization with KJU is a bit like trying to discuss philosophy with a ventriloquists dummy.
China is a heavy hitter in this game.
Does it make sense therefore for Trump and KJU to chat it up, when the power broker in the region is excluded?
IF China is to attend, under what rules?
As a three way meeting among equals? If Trump did that he'd be out-numbered two to one. And it seems even one to one Trump is out-classed before he even walks into the room.
Should China be allowed to audit some or all of the summit, perhaps even kibitz a little?
North Korea has a reputation in the U.S. as a formidable treaty negotiator. Trump fancies himself a capable negotiator, but has come up short as president.
And if Trump doesn't sober up, and postpone or cancel the NK summit, what is the prospect of a result beneficial to the U.S.?"You're going to have such great healthcare at a tiny fraction of the cost." candidate Trump 16/10/25 from campaign podium
“Nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated.” President Trump
And if that, what?
"Kim Jong Un was uhh, he really has been, uhh, very open. And I think very honorable." U.S. President Trump, late April 2018 / NBC-TV News 18/04/24
"It should be obvious to anyone why conservatives and libertarians should be against Trump. He has no grounding in belief. No core philosophy. No morals. No loyalty. No curiosity. No empathy and no understanding. He demands personal loyalty and not loyalty to the nation. His only core belief is in his own superiority to everyone else. His only want is exercise more and more personal power." smb / purveyor of fact 18/03/18

no. part of the reason why we are doing this is to move against them as well.
Remember the US only has one real rival. Its not Russia Germany or any of the other second rate nations. The only rival is China.
Things with NK are certainly encouraging.
Clearly, Trump deserves credit for getting Kim this far, but if he doesn’t seal the deal it will be forgotten. The problem for Kim is that Trump is different than his predecessors: if Kim doesn’t agree to allow a strict verification regime, things won’t go well for him.
So it’s going to be interesting.
If Trump does pull it off, it will be historic and liberals should probably get emotionally prepared for two terms of Trump lol.

it seems that peace and safety loving, humanitarian, do gooders should be weeping in joy over the possibility of world peace. reunification of north and south korea? wtf? haters. this thread is a hell of a testimony to hypocrisy. this is a Webster's type example of "hypocrisy". you have the right to remain silent. ...

I think you’re right about at least one thing.
I think Trump wants to brag alright. But I think he wants to boast about his economic numbers and other accomplishments. I can’t picture Trump just getting there, but leaving things in a mess and bailing after a year. Do you really think Donald Trump wants to listen to how bad a president he was four years from now?
That’s not the Donald Trump I know lol.
Nope, Trump is into this thing in order to win bigly. And if Trump wins the country will be betting off for it. It’s frustrating so many people want him to fail.

Socialism is just the modern word for monarchy.
D.C. has become a Guild System with an hierarchy and line of accession much like the Royal Court or priestly classes.
Private citizens are perfectly able of doing a better job without "apprenticing".
