Trump’s Reelection Poll Numbers Keep Pace with Obama’s, Clinton’s
    By Mairead McArdle

The percentage of voters who believe that President Trump should receive a second term is nearly identical to the percentage of voters who thought the same about former presidents Obama and Clinton at the same time in their presidencies, according to Gallup.

37 percent of registered voters believe Trump should be reelected, per Gallup’s April 9–15 poll. 37 percent believed President Obama should be reelected and 38 percent thought President Clinton should be reelected at the same point in their first terms.

Trump’s job-approval rating currently sits at 39 percent, according to Gallup. Clinton and Obama enjoyed slightly higher approval ratings in the springs of their respective second years in office, but by the time of those years’ November midterms, their numbers had sunk to where Trump’s are now.

The reelection polling mostly fell along party lines, with 78 percent of Republicans and just 6 percent of Democrats saying Trump deserves a second term.

The party of the sitting president generally loses seats in the midterm elections during his first term. Democrats took it on the chin in the first midterms of the Clinton and Obama presidencies, losing dozens of congressional seats and handing the House majority to Republicans. Heading into the 2018 congressional elections, Republicans are anxious about a possible blue wave that could flip districts Trump won in 2016 by wide margins.

Democrats need a net gain of 24 seats to retake the House and a net gain of two to retake the Senate.

Even the repubs don't have that many that approve of Trump. Don't be foolish, and rely on polls for a pat on the head. First thing you do with a poll is find out how many people were referenced for these numbers. It's not like a pollster goes around state to state asking everyone they can. When you've even had Coulter go out of favor with him, you know things are bad.

Wow, you really are a moron. What separates the reliable pols from the unreliable ones is the polsters ability to get an accurate representation of the overall population from a sample of limited size. But concepts like statistics are far too complex for your group with a myopic "we hate Trump" worldview.

Wrongo. Gallop is a bad poll. it is right wing and generally an outlier. The way it is done is you average out a lot of polls. That takes out some bias. Why you so insulting?

if you look at the right track wrong track polls for the direction of the country (one of the reasons i predicted a trump victory as my posts will show) Obama generally had mid 20s to very low 30s during his last couple of years. Despite all the negative press Trump is posting numbers at mid 30s to low 40s which is great. I think i even saw one at 45 from TIPP but thats obviously an outlier.

People might not like Trump but more people like the way the country is headed now than under obamas final years.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty percent (50%) disapprove.

Real Clear Politics averages polls ( rolling average), he's at 42%.
But the House will flip based on historical numbers and the sheer number of Repubs retiring.

Nothing ever gets done by Congress as it is..same old same old no matter the party breakdown.
The Republicans in the Senate are worthless as well -McCain being absent almost cost Pompeo his floor vote.

Chris Coons, D-Delaware changed his vote to "present" allowing it out of committee

Yes. Saw that today. It's frightening just how much of our Congress actually doesn't seem to want the country's business taken care of. Even the simplest of things like having a Presidential cabinet formed.

Trump was elected with similar approval numbers. Apparently a lot of people voted for him who refused to tell anybody they were voting for him, or at least pollsters, because it was too embarrassing for them to admit out loud.
