National Parks are hella expensive to visit. Last time I was at Yosemite it was 25 bucks just to get in.
25 bucks isn't a lot to me, but it is a lot for many people. Not to mention the gas to get there.
What they really need to do is make access to public lands free.
If we can afford to spend three trillion dollars on a War on Iraq, I am pretty sure we can afford to have free access to public lands.

Like I said above, I absolutely love my alone time out there. Whether fishing or hunting or just walking and scouting. Keeps me sane. Before I got married I’d saddle my horse with me pup tent and air mattress in my saddle bags and spend two or three days to a week just riding and camping in the hills. I’d take some food and kill some along the way. I miss that part of being single.

70 dollars just to enter a National Park is too bloody much.
I can afford it easily, but Americans - especially Americans of limited means - should not have to pay 70 dollars just to set foot in our public lands.
Entry Fees Could Double at Some National Parks
Fees at 17 popular national parks may soon be rising sharply. On Oct. 24, the National Park Service announced a proposal to begin charging higher peak-season fees for five months per year at some of the country’s most beloved parks, including Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone and Joshua Tree National Park. The park service said that the increase in funds would be used to address maintenance issues that affect the visitor experience, such as roads, campgrounds and bathrooms.
Under the proposal, entry fees at 17 parks during the peak season in 2018 would increase to $70 for noncommercial vehicles, $50 for motorcycles and $30 for pedestrians or cyclists.

I bet I would. If there’s trees and mountains/ridges it’s my kind of country.
To your other point, 3 out of my 4 main (non-related) fishing buddies are black friends of mine. It is anecdotal and who knows why but I still think the choice has to do with likes/dislikes.

And circling back to my original point, when you start charging outrageous fees to Americans for them to set foot on their own public lands, then that's how you turn the National Parks into the playgrounds of the affluent, and the overwhelmingly white. Kids from East LA and Oakland are not going to have their Moms take them to Yosemite for seventy dollars, not to mention the gas money, and camping fees on top of it.
They’re overwhelmingly white right now, though, price not withstanding. And as the discussion has been ongoing in this thread, evidence points to the tendency that parks, camping, hiking, etc. do not appeal to many people of color.
And, one of your points circles back to one of my points in threads about guns, their cost and their availability. I don’t want shooting/hunting to become hobbies that only the affluent can afford to participate in...which is exactly what increased regulation would do. But that’s a discussion for another thread. I’ll not comment on it further in this thread so as not to derail it.
Fact is those stats show blacks use parks at a greater percentage than other groups. They are 12.3 percent of population and 20 percent of park attendance. They should be 12,3 percent, but are 20. therefore they go to parks more.
