We are living through an era when the Western democracies are generally reassessing a great deal of assumed conventional liberal wisdom, and have been conducted in this direction by political leadership that is often disparaged in our mainstream media as disreputable rabble-rousing.
The American media regularly imply or state that the U.S. government is being run autocratically by a thuggish individual unfit for his great office.
Robert De Niro wants to send the president to prison in a comedy skit; Kathy Griffin, whose opening gambit was a still photograph of the president’s severed head, is now lampooning his entourage in predictable simulations.
Desperately unoriginal and mouthy occupants of late-night purported comedy — Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Chelsea Handler — imagine that shouting rehashed denigrations of the president and his family are amusing. It is a bore; it isn’t working, and history moves on.
Pew Research Center and Harvard Media Studies surveys both confirm that 90 per cent of the national media coverage of Donald Trump is hostile.Yet he is accomplishing his stated goals, slowly. The asinine Dodd-Frank financial strangulation law, which enacted the bipartisan dual-branch official American pretence that private greed rather than unspeakable governmental incompetence was responsible for the 2008 financial meltdown, is being repealed.
The Secretary of State-designate has returned from a secret visit to North Korea that appears to presage the most ambitious American diplomatic activity since president Reagan’s arms-reduction talks with president Gorbachev (1988), or even president Nixon’s accord with Mao Tse-tung and Chou En-lai (1972).
The economy is flourishing, illegal immigration is sharply curtailed. Assad has been smacked down and Putin faced down, and the gigantic canard of Trump collusion with Russia has collapsed.
That investigation, generated by a fired FBI director illegally taking a doubtfully accurate memo and leaking it to the press, has now degenerated into an absurd handoff to New York prosecutors to see if the president’s lawyer committed a campaign finance offence when he paid off a rather peppy porn star for silence about an alleged one-evening encounter with Trump when no abuse or even ungentlemanliness was alleged, 10 years before he ran for president.
Truly is America, the greatest nation in history, with all its complexities and shortcomings, mocked by the shallow bias of its free press and the absurdity of public discourse.
There are many vicissitudes but the American leviathan is, however awkwardly and inelegantly, reviving. But the most salient aspect of it is not the war on and travails of Trump, but the fact that the national media have shot their bolt every day for 34 months since he announced his candidacy for president.
The media threw their obligation to retain some element of fairness and detachment aside, and gambled everything on poisoning the wells and polluting public opinion so badly that the people’s choice (by the narrowest of margins and in a stunning surprise) would be overturned.
They gambled and they have lost.
My point is not to promote Trump; it is the colossal failure of the press, and the widespread extent of this phenomenon.

True. No more decent Pulitzer Prize winning in depth investigating and reporting.....particularly in the political realm. Very shallow skin-deep rag sheet fish wrappers.
Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
pain in abortion.
Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

Americans are being mocked because we have Trump who has not failed to behave like an ass every day for over a year.

America is being mocked by the scum that has taken over American conservatism.
Today's far right American conservatism is a pus pocket on the American body politic.

the subject is the press:

So late night comedians are the equivalent of a "free press"? This entire screed sounds like whiny snowflakes all butthurt because they voted for a slimebag who is such an easy target for mockery.
The late night guys are funny, but what's really hilarious are the apologists like the OP groveling at Trump's feet, begging for yet another kick.

I have no doubt much of the world mocks our media.
They’ve been reduced to calling Trump a bad old meanie...AND a poopy head lol. The only thing I can think is the media thinks everyone thinks like they do.
When they aren’t indulging in their daily hysteria over something Trump said, they report on Mueller or something to do with the Russian conspiracy theory. Meanwhile, Trump plugs along.
They deserve to be mocked.

The Pew poll indicates that 90% of the media coverage on Trump is negative.
There’s no explaining away that number. Especially, in light of the fact Trump has had successes. It might be somewhat explainable if everything he touched turned to mud. There’s just no excuse for that number.
And it’s particularly galling after the way the media behaved under ‘no drama’ Obama. Obama had no drama because he could count on a supine media to run interference for him—or hype his successes.
Imagine, if Obama had the kind of progress with NK that Trump has. The media would be pushing the Nobel committee to change their rules so they could bestow another Peace Prize on Obama.
Such bias is recognized throughout much of the country—and much of the world, apparently. The only ones oblivious to it work in the media or populate blue precincts.

Blame the media, blame the Russians....none of this changes that Trump plowed his way through 16 opponents for the nomination and won the Presidency because people see politicians so detached from them that they will go with the inside outsider, regardless of party affiliation. Obama was the outsider. Trump is the outsider.

The fact remains, as pointed out above by Kudzu, that if Trump wasn't constantly opening either his blowhole or his zipper -- or both -- there would be nothing negative to report. Name one other president who has such a thin skin, such a vindictive childish personality, that instead of ignoring perceived criticism, blows it up into a bigly yuge deal. Obama got far worse because of both his race, political party, and alleged "lack of experience." And some of that -- the whole birther shit -- was because of your glorious leader Trumplethinskin. Funny how he could dish it out, but sure can't take it.
I'm grateful that we still have non-Fox-propaganda reporting so that we can avoid the Koolaid that some here have been drinking.
Trump was more like the anti-Obama lol.
Obama was articulate [smooth-talker is another way of putting it lol] and he would sometimes change his delivery, depending on his audience. In contrast, Trump doesn’t even try to be anyone but himself with his delivery. Obama was Ivy League whereas Trump is largely a self-educated business man.
You could stop right there, actually.
Obama spent much of his young adult life emmersed in academia where Trump was out in real world scoring deals and making his billions. Obama entered politics with comparatively little in the way of practical experience that could be applied to dealing with bad foreign actors—-and you could tell by how things went.
Obama wanted the world to like us—-Trump knows better lol. From his dealings with bad actors in his business Trump knows such people just can’t be trusted. So Trump strong arms a Kim like he would a crooked contractor.
And guess what. It works.
But the media is largely lost in the tall grass.

This is exactly true, when networks like CNN, who once represented themselves as the go to network for worldwide news reduce themselves to a bias rag. People around the world wonder that American politics has gone to the dogs.
There are definite alternatives now, with the world wide web and numerous other News sites, so people will eventually gravitate to the ones they find fair and balanced.
CNN has caused their own demise, I predict her days are numbered. they are the access Hollywood of News now.
