    Default obama 2012 campaign

should be a good read in light of the hysteria regarding cambridge.

"and “targeted sharing” protocols mined an Obama backer’s Facebook network in search of friends the campaign wanted to register, mobilize, or persuade."

"The campaign didn’t just know who you were; it knew exactly how it could turn you into the type of person it wanted you to be."

"Obama’s campaign began the election year confident it knew the name of every one of the 69,456,897 Americans whose votes had put him in the White House."

Big difference is that that data began with a survey and projected out from there based upon past voting records, that is how they came up with the 69,456,897 figure, innovated, but above board. Cambridge, on the other hand, just took their survey and then used the entry to hack into any online associate of the intial volunteer in the survey, they employed a limited number of individuals to ballon it into data on over fifty million others
