Trumpism is about making America great again—for everyone. The concept couldn’t be more color blind.

Progressives start with the premise there is something wrong with the country and that it’s fundamentally unjust. Especially towards blacks and to a lesser extent to other minorities. Moreover, the primary goal of government is to right the wrongs done to minorities [by white males, of course lol] both historically and in the present.

That’s why progressives place so much emphasis on ‘social justice’.

But it isn’t the proper role of government to be used as an instrument to right historical wrongs or assign a sort of ‘victim status’ to one group over another. The latter idea couldn’t be more antithetical to the principles this country was founded upon.

It also makes for bad politics. The only way you’re going to [consistently] win on ‘whites vs minorities’ is to make whites a minority. If and when that happens, whites will begin to vote as a minority bloc and the electorate will devolve into disparate groups waging political war with one another.

Tribalism has a worse record than socialism. Tribalism reigns in shit hole countries. It’s a big reason they are shit holes. Note that it has nothing to do with race: shit hole countries are made that way through their political systems. It has nothing to do with race.

Us Deplorables want nothing to do with tribalism.

I never realized before how incredibly biased and focused we have always been on Male-White-Anglo culture. Then looking up and around I see that all world wide democracies are mostly influenced and built upon a single culture, sometimes that base changes as is the case in South Africa, but it flipped, South Africa did not become a multi-Ethnic Democracy, it is still a single Ethnic democracy, run now based on a majority from a new culture than it was before.

America's strength has always come from our diversity, while at the same time we have also always been ruled by a Male-White-Anglo supermajority.

We are faced with a new upheaval, as intentionally happens based on the design of our Democracy every 25 years or so. We faced the choice between Kennedy and Nixon in the 60's, it happened again when Bill Clinton, the first baby boomer president took over, and it is clearly happening now. This time it is bigger and I think more significant as it represents not just a generational shift of new thinking, but a shift in the culture we will use to shape our way going forward.

President Obama represented a first attempt at a sharp turn from an Angol-White culture representing the people with an angry counter insurgency pushing hard to respond with their values and principals. The struggle in the last 6 years of the Obama years was fought between Congress and the Presidency.

For a variety of reasons, resentment from the entrenched Male-White-Anglo faction, made it possible for them to take the presidency and maintain the Congress. We saw the struggle play out in the ideologies of the candidates during the election. Interestingly a struggle broke out in the Republican party between members who are open to adopting portions of the new multi-cultural governing coalition and those almost openly hostile to anything that might represent this move. Now we face the mid-term election and the boundaries of the battle are starting to develop, it looks like the Republican party is in trouble as it appears a coalition of those who are voting for their own political identity coupled with those willing to accept a compromise allowing a greater variety of values to be in the mix are more fired up than those fighting to maintain the old way.

If the Majority changes in Congress, if there is a coalition of those fighting for their own minority and those accepting of those minorities, the battle will shift once again from within the Republican party to a larger field represented more likely between Congress and the President. It will be very interesting to see where he stands if the President is faced with a power center that is more centrist, considering his tendency to revert to the mean after sometimes making statements more friendly to the new front. Will President Trump become more of a centrest as he is faced with a requirement that he work with liberals in order to make any deals?

Will America make the transition to the worlds first Multi-Cultural Democracy, I say yes... we are (always have been) a nation of great people of many cultures, just now we are going to start having a Government that reflects that. It might take two more presidential cycles, the fight might go on, but as the older generation dies, the newer one will take over, as always happens, and the more modern version of America will emerge stronger than ever.

I do indeed appreciate your sincere thoughts. Thought-provoking on many levels.

Democracy, history, politics, race and an evolving American population. Where to start?

For many of us, Donald Trump represents what America always been. Anyone shocked by Trump and his followers simply hasn't been paying attention. America has not always been the bastion of culture and diversity that you envision. More importantly, getting to the point in time where an Obama was possible did not come easily. It took more than 300 years just to achieve basic human rights in the 'land of the free.' The name of that song is, 'That Which Does Not Kill You, Only Makes You Stronger.'

I've been saying since Trump was elected that he would be the best thing to happen to the progressive movement since the Sixties and beyond. He woke a lot of people up who were too secure in the illusion of America to recognize the evil that has always been there. With Trump and republican control of government, they would get to try every hare-brained, racist, sexist, greed-driven, stupid ass scheme they could get away with .. and virtually fail at every one of them while at the same time demonstrating to the entire world just how flawed we are as a people.

It's taken our children to demand changes in gun laws that their parents never had to courage to demand even while they watched ever-rising numbers of school children being gunned down by automatic weapons.

That being said, today we all stand on the cusp of a true American evolution, and diversity is the main course. The influence and power the Male-White-Anglo faction has diminished, and is currently being reduced even further by its champion of the moment, Donald Trump.

America, ADT .. After Donald Trump .. will look and feel quite different for an evolving population that will demand it.
AMERICAN HISTORY ITSELF IS A TESTAMENT TO THE STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE OF AFRICAN PEOPLE. WE, ALONG WITH THE COURGE AND SACRIFICES OF CONSCIOUS WHITE AMERICANS, LIKE VIOLA LIUZZO, EVERETT DIRKSEN, AND MANY OTHERS, HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED TOGETHER FOR OUR FREEDOM, AND FOR OUR SURVIVAL.

In America, rights are are not determined by what is just, fair, equitable, honest, nor by what Jesus would do. Rights are determined ONLY by what you can DEMAND.

You want the destruction of western civilization just as post modernist neo-Marxian's have already done in western Europe. Your new "influences" are destructive as can be seen by the shitholes they have left.

I'm not a white nationalist I am a western chauvinist, we need a minimum 75 year moratorium on all immigration to allow for assimilation and immediate deportation of all illegal immigrants.

By multi-ethnic democracy, are you referring the the gerrymandered majority minority districts. You know, the ones where those elected couldn't get picked for dog catcher unless they had a built in advantage all but guaranteeing them a win? There's some of them chosen in those district that couldn't get hired to clean the toilets at the Capitol much less occupy an office.

Your problem is that your tribe is shrinking and it's incredibly ignorant .. as demonstrated by your silly ass comments here.

Ok lol, when whites become just another minority which tribe do you think will reign?

Or is there something inherent in being white that makes white people oppressors?

Don’t run and hide. Explain it to me.

Looking at it from the Socratic method point of view, I would first say we have to agree on what is actually true.

There are a lot of people in this country - and I mean a lot - who do not believe in democracy, fair play, equal representation, or the public commons. There are a lot of people who believe in authoritarianism, patriarchy, white superiority. I do not think that is ever going to change. You basically have one political party now who routinely denies this country is anything akin to a democracy, who deliberately gerrymanders legislative districts, relentlessly tries to suppress the vote and make it a hassle to vote, and who clings like grim death to undemocratic institutions like the archaic electoral college and the current structure of the U.S. Senate to cling to power - even against the will of the people.

Is this country going to come to a consensus that privileged white males need to share power equally? Probably eventually, not sure if in my lifetime. I do not think there is any doubt that over the long arc of history, the forces of progressivism and enlightenment advance incrementally against the reactionary rightwing.

I think it comes down to money and economics, more than it does to culture and skin color. Money and economic clout seems to me to be the main leverage the reactionary, white supremacist base has and uses to maintain a grip on power - against the popular will of the people. The more economic power that people of color and women have, the more the system will be forced to accommodate them.

Last, I am not a big fan of the word "multi-culturalism". It seems like a word some academic made up in a university, though I understand the intent.
In my opinion, our heritage of English common law and western intellectual tradition has largely served this nation well -- and would continue to do so irrespective of culture, skin color, ethnicity. I think there is plenty of common ground between Martin Luther King, Thomas Jefferson, Jesus Christ, and the prophet Muhammad to co-exist within a western liberal democracy based on English common law and western tradition.

Everything I have seen, indicates to me that immigrants assimilate into the United States over time. By the second generation, almost certainly. So, in that sense, I have never been worried about a Balkanizing effect of immigration. My father - an immigrant himself - always told me that recent immigrants are the backbone of America. And he was right about that.

Yet another rambling nonsensical post from the resident leg humper. Poor little thing tries so desperately to feel superior.

While very little in life is black and white it seems the white patriarchy thing is more a province of the Boomers than any other group of people. I think the white patriarchy thing will be largely a minority once the boomers are in their grave. There has been a progression over the centuries as the wasp thing has faded. Remember JFK was elected the first Catholic President and that was a big deal at the time. White young people today live amongst minorities like no time in the past and largely they get along fine.
