Any gun is only a weapon of "war" as you say, if the user is a warrior (ie aggressor, antagonist, etc.).
A semiautomatic is still a semiautomatic whether it's a rifle or a handgun.
I'm not particularly in favor of the knee jerk reaction to all of this by lowering the age to 18, but it is what it is now.
We have the right to own guns and that's the bottom line. As long as bad guys can get a hold of them, the good guys have a right to protect themselves.

More guns = more shootings and more deaths. But a rising body count is not as important as your home arsenal. Guns in schools is a horrible idea. The idea that teachers will be trained well enough and their training maintained over years is ridiculous. Then they have to be in the right place at the right time. Then not get scared like the well trained, long time officer did.. The idea is a farce. But gun lovers are desperate and snatching at anythong that will justify more guns. More and more guns. Lots of guns.
