In your opinion, why do you think the Founding Fathers inserted the 2nd Amendment into the US Constitution? What was their purpose?

A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.
To defend against the British. they absolutely did not think the government needed to be overthrown. That is so stupid. What a goofy premise. We are setting up a new country and carefully enumerating the rights. But we are so defeatist, that we believe the people should overthrow what we are trying to build. How can anyone believe that is the point?
the founders had just successfully won independence from a government that tried to disarm and control them. It is the absolute height of stupidity to believe that they would entrust their new central government not to do the same. welcome to your absolute height of stupidity.
