President Trump said Wednesday the administration is going to strengthen background checks for gun purchases and “put a strong emphasis on mental health,” as he promised students and families “we are going to get it done.”

Will liberals praise Trump now? Will his followers condemn him now?

Trump says a lot of s***
Background checks is a bone thrown towards the anti gun crowd. These shooters always slip through the legal cracks so more laws are just a sop for our fears.
I think Trump threw the bone out there to provide political leverage for the other stuff. The other stuff might actually work.

That was a very powerful meeting. I'm not sure where the negativity is coming from.
Far, far, far . . . far, far, far more guns used in homicides are illegally purhased/possessed by the one doing the shooting. Whether it's straw purchases, off the street, or stolen, the things those pushing for more gun control won't work. Those that have these guns aren't slipping through the cracks, they're breaking the law.
He shouldn’t have slipped under the radar as it is.
How many red flags went up and he still was able to shoot a bunch of kids up? It’s way past time we stopped assuming the safe guards and laws are going to work.
There has to be a last resort when everything else fails. It’s time for a serious discussion about metal detectors, armed security and the like.
How many armed guards do you walk by before you get into the halls of Congress? Why doesn’t Congress rely on laws to stop shooters?
Because they know better.

It's way past time, yep, but getting the voters to approve more taxes for that will be a hard sell. Many barely want to fund schools now.
Can you imagine the screaming, especially in states where h.s. sports are huge, if the alternative was to cut funding for athletics and use it for more security?
these things could be funded with current taxation, but only if the voters want to get serious about how their budgets are handled. my city alone has had several turn overs of city council people because they didn't want to listen to us voters about how to spend our money, believing that they knew better. take your governments back or keep whining, your choice.
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.
