I know a little about ballistics, also about bullet configuration, energy, expansion and velocities to name a few. Normally, I use a .308 dia. 165 gr. Serra projectile for larger game (deer) in my 700 BDL, but also kept (at that time) a .220 Swift in my trunk as a backup, loaded with 65 gr. Nosler projectiles. Many years ago while eating lunch with a few other hunters by a long open field, a deer was grazing about 10 yards just inside the woods about 500+ yards away. Two of those other hunters, one with a .308 and I'm not sure about the other, started shooting at it. Their bullets were hitting about 100 yd. or less in the field and didn't get the deer's attention. Leaning against a telephone pole, I fired one round from my .220 Swift and dropped that deer in it's tracks. Yes, the bullet left a larger entry hole and shredded the heart and a lung, but the rest of the meat was relatively unharmed. Would I recommend using this (or any .223 dia. projectile) for big game?, Absolutely not, but that's not saying it can't be used without damaging the meat if the shot is well placed.
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

The Best Answer of the day.

Because there's is no such thing as a NEED for an AR-15.

I'd say that it falls in line with you wanting a Corvette and me wanting a Cobra. Both can raise hell on the streets, but are legal to own. Just as an AR-15 is.

Just like the things I've listed:
Why does anyone NEED more then 1 TV?
Why does anyone NEED a car that goes faster then 55?
Why does anyone NEED a house that has 4 or 5 bedrooms and 2 or 3 bathrooms?
Why does anyone NEED a computer, outside of work?

Sometimes "need" has nothing to do with it.

You know ARs come in more than just .223 right? You know that not every animal you hunt is a deer right? Coyote, wild pigs, ground hogs, Etc.

The .223 caliber bullet of the AR-15 used to make the rifle illegal for hunting big game, because it was considered too weak to make for a humane kill.

Owning guns and sports cars aren't compensating for any issues, fool. They are interests and/or hobbies. Maybe you should pursue one sometime, it makes dealing with stupid people like yourself far less stressful..

There is no such thing as a "need requirement" in the 2nd either for the individual.
