Our school went into lockdown the other day because a parent made a threat against an employee. Of course in our classrooms we didn’t know it at the time. Teachers dutifully locked their doors, moved their students to the safest part of the classrooms and most of us stood at those locked doors with whatever we could find to use for a weapon...everything from lab barstools to the spirit stick (a very well made wooden tomahawk) that I had. I would have preferred my Ruger 9mm. The Rambo nuts are the side of the issue you guys want to highlight (I don’t deny those mindsets exist) but in reality most of us just want something more than a wooden tomahawk to protect our kids.

So why aren't they protecting us? Why do these mass shootings continue to occur and there's never a gun hugger anywhere to be found?

Maybe it's because they're all too busy sitting at home yammering their pro-gun crap online all day.

Want to help either end or at least lower the number of the kinds of incidents that happened in South Florida last week?

    Take action, gun nuts!!!

    Get off your €£¥@#$!!!

    Organize!!!!

Form a nationwide network of community based, citizen protection groups!!!

Contact local officials from school boards, local govt and law enforcement. Get them involved in the process.

    Come up with a plan.

    Begin a recruitment drive.

Include background checks as part of the process for applicants.

Then, start standing guard outside our public schools, churches and public events.
Besides the obvious put downs and other bunk in the above, most of us have jobs. Kind of hard to stand guard when you’re at work. Kind of hard to take time to "protest” and fulfill responsibilities.

Society has been paying the price for your selfish obsession for too long!!!

Now it's time for you to start pulling your weight!!!

    Hello? Are you listening????
Yes, we’re listening. Society hasn’t been paying squat for gun owners. What society has been paying for is the breakdown of the household ... you know, two parent households, nuclear family, etc. Society has been paying for the lessening of the sanctity of life through various avenues of which abortion is only a part. Society has been paying for becoming a more and more Godless society over time. So yes, we’re listening ... but we’re not agreeing.

Ever wondered why you don't see these shooters going to a gun show and doing what they do at a gun free zone?

In most countries they are gun free zones because no-one in his right mind would take a gun into either, and the ones not in their right mind can't get guns. Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest!

Words of in-wisdom from an idiot who has never owned a gun much less touched one. Different country different laws sport.

Well, I used to use a superannuated shotgun (made rabbits laugh) and got quite good with a rifle on RAF ranges but, yes, I grew far too old to play cowboys by the eleven! Grow up!

Weak retort at best! At least you admit you are a lousy shot and most likely a danger to anyone in the immediate area. Glad you no longer touch guns the world is a safer place without you holding a weapon.

If that is indeed his argument, I would agree with him. The background check to buy the gun isn't adequate if you are going to put that individual in charge of protecting others.

You would need to show evidence of training with the weapon being used while guarding others. Safety, threat awareness, etc...

I would not want a first time gun buyer/user to be put in the position of guarding others without some formal training.

Either way, it doesn't fundamentally change anything.
The vast majority of legal gun owners have had the background check. I would suggest that anyone put in front of a school to guard it have formal gun safety/use training.

    Keep going.

Show us all just what a lowife you really are.

Yet rifles have been used in what 20 mass shootings? While there are over 100 million rifles in the US... and you vilify all rifle owners by the cherry picked situations where they were misused.
