While Snopes grades it Mostly True, there is this:
As we explained in a 17 February 2017 post, this rule — which never went into effect before being rescinded — did not change any existing laws regulating who is allowed to purchase guns.
There are now, and have been for some time, laws that seek to limit gun sales to anyone “who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution” per Title 18 section 922(g) of the United States Code.

Circuit court rulings say that automatic weapons, semi automatic and extra large clips are not covered under the 2nd amendment. States can ban them.

Yes, you have to jump through special hoops (obtain certain licenses) to obtain automatic weapons. I can’t buy one.

You can buy a semi and change it to automatic. Or just use the semi. It does a great job of shooting defensive people one after another.. Everyone should jump through hoops to buy any gun. they should have background checks and take training classes, like we do with drivers licenses for cars. Semi or automatics should be banned.

Nope. I’ll go with background checks but our opinions apparently diverge after that.

"Circuit court rulings say that automatic weapons, semi automatic and extra large clips are not covered under the 2nd amendment. States can ban them." N #92
That's the 2nd amendment equivalent of saying the 1st Amendment protects speech, but the government retains the right & authority to regulate mouths.

The gun is OK. It's the essential components of the gun that are the problem?

No empathy and no understanding. He demands personal loyalty and not loyalty to the nation. His only core belief is in his own superiority to everyone else. His only want is exercise more and more personal power." smb / purveyor of fact 18/03/18
