While I appreciate retired Army Major General Paul D. Eaton's candor, I'm curious about the UCMJ.
At my most recent check it's illegal for ACTIVE DUTY commissioned military officers to criticize the president.
I don't know if that same restriction applies to retirees.

While I hope we're not at risk of Trump simply taking over the U.S. as Putin has taken over Russia * I do find the warning signs Eaton cites to be cause for concern.

    * When's the Russian election? Next week? Do you suppose Putin will win?

His only want is exercise more and more personal power." smb / purveyor of fact 18/03/18

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The Pentagon has turned down Donald J. Trump’s request for a grand military parade in Washington, D.C., citing a sudden outbreak of bone spurs that would prevent men and women in uniform from participating.

Harland Dorrinson, a Pentagon spokesman, said that, within an hour of Trump’s request, more than a hundred thousand military personnel complained that they were suffering from acute cases of bone spurs that would make marching in such a parade a painful ordeal.

    We’ll wait.
    What was JFK commemorating?

Don't worry, I know you won't answer because to do so will make you look stupid.

I know it's not a major crisis, but it will be really embarrassing if he follows through with this.

    Yes but / and:

    It borders on comical.

Trump's ego was outsized before he won the election.

And now Trump's ego is on presidential steroids. And he's willing to spend $millions, because he enjoyed a parade in France.

Trump wants to be the boss. Trump doesn't want to take no for an answer.

    BUT !!

Trump does face being overruled on this by public opinion.

Trump went to the trouble to get elected, and even as president he may not get what he wants.

Uh no it doesn't. All military personnel are citizens first. While signed up they cannot but before and after? Um, yeah! SO after service they can act as free thinking citizens, you know the thing they are supposedly um... defending. That that is even a question is in all honesty very disturbing.

    Wow.

Someone should remind Trump that Puerto Rico could use some of that money to get the power back up and a semblance of civility returned to them. How long has it been now?
