Default Democratic lead in generic House ballot collapses from 15 percent to just 2 percent:

Republicans are gaining on their Democratic counterparts in the generic House ballot, a new poll published Wednesday found.

Democrats maintain a lead over the GOP on the generic ballot, with 47 percent of registered voters saying they’d support Democratic candidates over Republicans if the election were held today. Forty-five percent of voters would support GOP candidates, according to a Monmouth University Poll.

That latest figures for the generic ballot are a marked shift from December, when 51 percent of voters said they would back Democrats, compared to 36 percent who would cast ballots for Republican congressional candidates.

“The generic Congressional ballot is prone to bouncing around for a bit until the campaign really gets underway later this year,” Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said. “But Democrats who counted on riding public hostility toward the tax bill to retake the House may have to rethink that strategy.”

Republicans are eager to tout the benefits of their tax bill, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump last month. But Democrats argued the legislation would benefit wealthy Americans and big corporations.

Since the passage of the tax bill, though, a number of major companies have announced new benefits for employees, including bonuses of up to $1,000 and increases to their respective minimum wages, which they attributed specifically to the GOP’s tax reform.

I assume this was before the disgraceful Democratic performance at the SOTU speech.

Why was what they did at the SOTU "disgraceful"?

They don't support Trump dismantling the vital institutions that made America what it is, and his overall boorish & dishonest image that he portrays to the world. Why should they give him fake applause?

In a few years, many on the right will be tripping themselves trying to distance themselves from the fact that they ever supported Trump - much like the Iraq War now. Dems won't have that issue.

they sat on their hands for the couple(s) who's kids were killed by MS-13, as well as the part about record low employment black/Hispanic..

The Dem's can't even applaud for American successes /tragedies.. and those optics will stick around for awhile.

    Iraq war??? lol

Well, good thing they have healthcare, fair tax policy, protecting the environment, actually helping the working class instead of the wealthy, keeping families together and restoring America's image around the world, among other issues...

No, they won't. No one will be talking about that in a week.

true. The speech will be forgotten in time. I do hope the initiatives launched in that speech continue though. We have to reclaim the term "dreamer"

fair tax policy??? my gawd man..you have been drinking the Kool-aid..
The workers are doing fine- not just jobs but wage increases , plus 200,000 new manufacturing jobs in a year, and bonuses.

You'd have to show enviornmental degradation. Even chain immigration is being shown as going way to far bringing in the majority of new immigrants//

The Dems better compromise on infrastructure (something?), or they are going to be EASILY painted

reducing immigration would help the environment in the US : ) IMO overpopulation causes a lot of the problems.

It was a tax cut for the wealthy. The working class gets a few scraps out of the gate, but the redistribution will be impossible to deny as time goes on. I don't even know what "the workers are doing fine" means. It sounds very Marie Antoinette-ish.

Have to show environmental degradation? Really? Okay - that won't be too hard. Trump has dismantled a huge # of environmental protections in just one year - at a time when the environment is on life support as it is. Give me a break on that one.

Being the "party of no" gave the GOP majorities everywhere.

If i were RNC , and it were relevant you'd see it..
but anyways..the old saying is in play " you can't beat something with nothing"

I wonder if Dem leadership is hip to the fact they are easily shown as the party of "no" yet?
