Wrong
If the GOP doesn't put together some kind of bipartisan immigration component, and there exists a good number of GOP moderates who would agree to such, they will be faced with the same circumstances they were last week and McConnell will have to honor his commitment and a clean DACA bill up for a vote, which would pass
Predictably, the House, probably on orders from the White House, would table it, not even put it up for a vote, which means the failure to deal with immigration falls directly on the GOP. Another issue for the Democrats to hammer home in November, not mention killing any of the President's 2018 agenda

Republicans were going to be complicit in every murder committed by an illegal. They knew they had to bow to Dems' demands, and press for an immigration bill that the House will HAVE TO vote on. Otherwise, Republicans would continue to get blamed for the lack of an immigration bill.
Notwithstanding trump's campaign ad that had the country laughing at him (again), Republicans told Turtle Man that he'd better get his ass out there and commit to working to get immigration done. He's a lying sack of shit, and he was forced to detail his path toward a good faith negotiation.
Hell....If I were Schumer, I'd have told trump to extend DACA as is for two years or more, and he'll end the filibuster.
Nonetheless, the real culprit here is Ryan. He isn't allowed to bring any bi partisan immigration bills to a vote.

A lie doesn't become the truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good just because it is accepted by a majority.

Sure, according to Schumer, they were even willing to give the President Mexico's funding for the Wall, but the President yet again, changed his mind
I'll predict the scenario for you, there will be no serious negotiations over immigration, the White House, regardless of the Senate GOP, will never take a defined position, pushing this week's events till February. We will get a rerun next month
And then the Debt Ceiling follows, good luck on getting any of the President's agenda thru in 2018, but the Administration probably know this, and are already planning to scapegoat the Democrats once again as the culprits. Difference then will be that the Democrats have the commitment McConnell made today to fall back on, the games have just begun

There already is a 68 vote bi partisan bill rotting on Ryan's desk. He isn't allowed to bring it to a vote...as Boner wasn't before him.
The only issue has been the House. Schumer effectively forced Ryan's hand. If they're smart, we'll see any new Senate bill attached to the funding bill.
