The Democrats have been waiting for months for the GOP and President to deal with DACA as they were promised in the previous budget deals even as late as December. Nothing was done, the GOP knew this was coming and still didn't act, again putting the Democrats off with promises to do it down the road. If they waited till March and the deadline the Democrats would lose their only bargaining chip.

At the same time the President, who is in the position to make a difference is instead adding complexities, neither side even know what he will approval, McConnell even admitted last Wednesday he didn't know what bill to put up for a vote. Keep in mind even the entire GOP isn't for the continuing resolution, this doesn't fall entirely on the Democrats nor on DACA

Exactly. The problem is the minority opinion that has trump's ear. He's finally paying for his kneejerk actions since taking office. All he's done is remove Obama era gains for society.

Without reconciliation, Republicans are impotent to destroy the country.

Some of these DACA foreigners, who are criminally in our country, are in their late 30's ... they are not kids. And they're not All ... good people. They should be individually vetted ... and not given criminal immunity based solely on skin color as the racist democrats would have it.

And BTW, all American kids are dreamers too

How do you explain the 4 Republicans that voted no? Or the 5 Dems that voted yes?

At this point the Democrats should let the Republicans dig there own 2018 grave. Now a bright light shines on the Democrats, giving the Republicans the talking point that the government was closed over illegal immigrants, over American citizens. Trump supporters will eat it up.

All the kids of conservative Republicans dream of someday having parents they aren't ashamed of and embarrassed by.

A dream that will never come true.

4 Republicans voted against this bill. 5 Democrats voted for it
Are you referring to what happened in the Senate? No one got to vote for or against the bill. The vote you are referring to was whether or not to end debate so the bill itself could be voted on. The bill got filibustered. There was no vote on the bill in the Senate

Most Americans support DACA and the idea of a govt shutdown has become so common that it doesn't even scare anyone anymore.

Bullshit ... U.S. soldiers won't be getting their paychecks thanks to Schumer. Blue collar, working class gov't employees won't be getting their paychecks, thanks to Schumer. White liberal elites won't be hurt tho ... so you're safe

    DACA is unconstitutional..it's the executive creating a protected class - that's a Congressional function/

    Totally lol.

The shutdown sucks but it’s good in at least one way: it’s brings the DACA issue to the forefront and forces democrats to explain why they put the interests of non-citizens [who aren’t even here legally] ahead of citizens—military citizens, in particular.

Why is DACA so bloody important to them?

For Trump it’s easy: he campaigned on America First.

Apparently, maintaining a porous border is more important to dems .... than DACA ... or our service men and women .

That's what they're claiming on Fox, but nobody is buying it. Why did this have to be a CHOICE between DACA and CHIP?

Republicans can't stop stepping on their dicks. They let CHIP expire in Sept., thinking it would be a bargaining chip now. They were wrong. Nobody will make the correlation that you offer above. They'll just remember that trump let the govt. shut down, as he promised to do back in May.

Correct. Same difference. Because this is the only vote that requires 60 votes. Why did 4 Republicans vote no?
