Now that Republicans can no longer ram through legislation via reconciliation, they must come up with ways to compromise with Democrats.

This is trump's shutdown. All he had to do is take a pen, and undo his Executive action against DACA. Or, extend the deadline by several months.

But he's pandering to the Alt. Right minority in Congress, which is the same size as his base.

trump shutdown. No other way to spin this. Now matter how many Russians take to Twitter.
The AP accidentally let the fact out of the bag in their initial Twitter headline:

“Senate Democrats appear to have derailed a Republican bill aimed at preventing a federal shutdown.”

Why did Democrats derail the bill aimed at preventing a shutdown? Why do democrats put the interest of illegal aliens ahead of citizens?

    Schumer’s Shutdown.

Silly talking points. Why did 4 Republicans vote to shut down the govt? trump/Schumer had a deal, that Schumer wasn't crazy about. He offered money for the fantasy wall. trump agreed, but eventually renegged...to nobody's surprise.

4 Republicans voted against this bill. 5 Democrats voted for it

I think you got this right, Althea...it IS Trump's shutdown. If the Republicans in congress were not so terrified of him...it wouldn't have happened...but Donald Trump owns this thing, even if some of the Trump sycophants here want to spin what the AP said into something more.

My guess...Trump will do what Trump does best. He will make matters much worse for himself, his fellow Republicans, and our nation in general. Gotta give credit where credit is due...he is an expert at that.

The AP had to spin their initial headline!

And why are the interests of non-citizens put ahead of funding the government?

I’m interested in the answer to that one.

I guess you would have to educate yourself, or at least take an interest in, the history behind DACA.

You either willingly ignore, or simply forgot that the Senate overwhelmingly passed a bi partisan immigration bill that Boehner refused to bring to the floor of the House. It included fines/registration/military duty for illegal immigrants.

Because that was an era of flat out refusal to allow any accomplishments by Obama, the bill sat and rotted in the House.

So Obama created DACA, as a temp. measure until the House got it's act together.

trump has such a bad case of Obama envy, he's on a mission to eradicate him from history. It's easily argued that trump started this by ending DACA, and CHIP

Democrats shut down the government over DACA. That’s the story and that’s the headline—-or should be.

Amusingly, the Twitter headline for this AP link reads:

The Latest: Senate Democrats appear to have derailed a Republican bill aimed at preventing a federal shutdown. [AP on Twitter]

Note the gratuitous word smithing in the above headline. Why can’t AP just say ‘Democrats shut down the government over DACA’? That’s what happened and it’s more concise.

But when you click on the Twitter link it takes you to another headline which reads: “Schumer says Trump backed off deal”.

And here I thought the media might actually blame democrats for a government shutdown, finally. Well they did at first, but they couldn’t follow through with it lol.

I blame them all. Last I checked there were 100 senators and 430 something reps.

The government is closed. They all fail.

Sure. But when you dig down below the surface, you can blame Republicans. They rammed through a horrible tax bill, and argued in bad faith to take healthcare away from millions of people.

Do you really think that Democrats were going to roll over, once legislation required their participation?

Why didn't trump just reinstate DACA? And CHIP funding?

I think it was bad strategy for the Democrats to let it look like the government was closed over DACA.
    Those people aren't citizens.

To a degree, all of them, but a shutdown shouldn't happen when the same party controls both the Legislative and Executive Branches of the Gov't., never has happened before

True, and they had a months notice that all they had to do was accept some hard working tax paying kids dragged into the USA by their parents illegally (dreamers) and it was a done deal, but the racists apparently control them.
You'd think considering the tax ramdown for the wealthy and corps they could give a little to keep the whole gov open.

Wow, that was exactly my thought. See my post. I mean since they are for allowing Dreamers to stay anyway, why not look like the good guys, give in on it and look like cooperating heroes?
