Default Nearly all members of National Park Service advisory panel resign in frustration

Most of the National Park Service advisory board just quit because the Interior Department is a hot mess

Nearly all the members of the U.S. National Park Service advisory board announced their sudden resignations on Monday night, in protest of what they say has been a lack of engagement by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke during the past year. In a resignation letter, the members said Zinke refused to meet with the panel, which is legally required to provide input to the department regarding how to take care of America's most treasured landscapes.

Former Alaska Gov. and advisory board member Tony Knowles turned in the letter of resignation for himself and eight others, citing "a profound concern that the mission of stewardship, protection, and advancement of our National Parks has been set aside."

The other eight members of the board that joined Knowles include: Gretchen Long, Paul Bardacke, Carolyn Finney, Judy Burke, Stephen Pitti, Milton Chen, Belinda Faustinos, Margaret Wheatley. Just three members remain a part of the board.

In an interview with Alaska Public Radio, Knowles went a bit more in-depth about what drove the board's frustrations with the current administration.

“The department showed no interest in learning about or continuing to use the forward-thinking agenda of science, the effect of climate change, protections of the ecosystems, education,” Knowles said in a phone interview. “And it has rescinded NPS regulations of resource stewardship concerning those very things: biodiversity loss, pollution and climate change.”

How many millions of tax dollars do we waste on national parks each year.

The Koch brothers offered to save taxpayer dollars by buying park land, but we already know Democrats don't want to save the taxpayer's money.

You can cry all you want, but the National Park Service is probably one of the most popular services our Federal Government provides.

On another tangent, my opinion is that any conservative who supported the multi-trillion dollar Iraq War Fiasco is never, ever, under any circumstances allowed to lecture anyone on the proper use of taxpayer money.

One reason we're hauling ourselves though all those parks next year. Thank God I have a special disability card that lets me get in free, otherwise I'd have issues getting enough money together with the new extortionist fees. I'm a 100% in favor of supporting the parks, but these asinine fees being put in place by government assholes, is nothing about that.

We got a lifetime senior pass shortly before they raised the prices again. Hope the parks last longer than we do. I expect they'll be okay though. People from all political persuasions, except for the tards here, cherish our beautiful national parks.

He's a boring loser troll. Not worth the time of day, since he can't even excite anything with his trolling. Unless making someone yawn is exciting an impulse to you.

That's why everyone hates our National Parks! They're so swampy & bureaucratic! PRESIDENT TRUMP TO THE RESCUE !! - yea -

    Is it not literally anti-American?
"Even worse -- destroying our National Parks over petty partisan bull**** is okay with some of the conservatards." TW #4
    Merciful Heavens NO !!

    a) You and I could not possibly be more in accord on this issue; from the conservationist standpoint.

    b) By the context and syntax of your sentence, your "conservatards" slur seems directed not at those that resigned, but the politicians and political appointees that goaded them into it.

They are obviously not conservationists. And they are equally certainly not political conservatives.
"... the magnificently misnamed "neo-conservatives", are the most radical people in this town [Washington DC]" George Will / ABC-TV This Week July 16, 2006
You may call them pseudo-cons if you wish.

But PLEASE do not disparage the righteously proud nobility of genuine conservatism.
Conservatism means honoring tradition, the tried and true.
And motherhood literally pre-dates the human race.
The apple traces back to the Garden of Eden.
What then is more conservative than motherhood & apple pie?

Please, please, please do not lay false charge against GENUINE conservatives.

But I formally declare open season on pseudo-cons. FIRE AWAY !! !!
" we already know Democrats don't want to save the taxpayer's money. " #5
How interesting that you won't quote anyone that identifies as a Democrat, that takes that position.
So instead of you persuasively advocating your own position, you concoct an absurdity, and then pretend to righteousness by criticizing your own absurdity.
"It should be obvious to anyone why conservatives and libertarians should be against Trump. He has no grounding in belief. No core philosophy. No morals. No loyalty. No curiosity. No empathy and no understanding. He demands personal loyalty and not loyalty to the nation. His only core belief is in his own superiority to everyone else. His only want is exercise more and more personal power." smb / purveyor of fact 18/03/18

Doesn't sound like they are going to be missed, they jumped before being pushed!

The Interior Department said Wednesday it welcomes the mass resignation of nearly all members of a key National Park Service advisory panel, saying it soon will appoint new members and hold a meeting with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

Interior spokeswoman Heather Swift accused some of the panel members of choosing to ignore sexual harassment while praising a repeat offender of ethics violations in expressing the agency's praise for the departures.

“We welcome their resignations and would expect nothing less than quitting from members who found it convenient to turn a blind eye to women being sexually harassed at National Parks and praise a man as 'inspiring' who had been blasted by the inspector general for ethics and management failures, all while taking credit for the extensive work of private companies during the NPS centennial celebration," Swift said in a statement to the*Washington Examiner.
