It's a federal holiday. All that means is the banks, post office, and other federal offices are closed. When it comes to the states/D.C., it's about a 22/29 yes/no split whether or not it's a state holiday. The push to remove it as a federal holiday has come primarily from your left wingers. My state has chosen not to recognize it as a state holiday. To my knowledge, it hasn't at least since I've been alive. What I find interesting is that 4 of the 22 states that recognize it as a state holiday have legislatures where Democrats hold a majority in both houses. 2 of the 22 have one of their two houses controlled by Democrats. 1 of the 22 has it's State Senate tied with it's House majority Democrat. Why haven't those states done something about it?
