Summary: After one year in office, after 12 months of continuous bombardment by his political foes, Trump's job approval numbers have held steady for six months (they dropped after the honeymoon). This is key to understanding the current situation in US politics — and what lies ahead in the potentially decisive 2018 and 2020 elections.

Even the NYT is starting to get the message.

The GOP is gonna lose in '18.
Show me one race since Trump was elected where Dems didn't out-perform historically.

First, people who go into the White House to have a meeting with President Trump usually leave pleasantly surprised. They find that Trump is not the raving madman they expected from his tweetstorms or the media coverage. They generally say that he is affable, if repetitive. He runs a normal, good meeting and seems well-informed enough to get by.
Second, people who work in the Trump administration have wildly divergent views about their boss. Some think he is a deranged child, as Michael Wolff reported. But some think he is merely a distraction they can work around. Some think he is strange, but not impossible. Some genuinely admire Trump.
Third, the White House is getting more professional. Imagine if Trump didn’t tweet. The craziness of the past weeks would be out of the way, and we’d see a White House that is briskly pursuing its goals: the shift in our Pakistan policy, the shift in our offshore drilling policy, the fruition of our ISIS policy, the nomination for judgeships and the formation of policies on infrastructure, DACA, North Korea and trade.

amazing praise and clarity from the self described #nerverTrump Brooks.

Democrats are going to be so bummed when they find out the Russia collusion charges are a nothing burger.

Trump didn't even win this one in numbers. Somehow as their approval rating goes down, and Obama's, and Obamacare's flow up like a fizzy beer, we're in trouble in the book of stupid. I'm sure the next chapter will be: Your friend velcro.

how the fuck did he win then asshole?
by cheating huh
There's a theory that a sizable portion of the electorate support Trump, but won't admit it in public. Because, ya know, they don't want to falsely be called racist and such. The rabid level of hatred and venom directed at Trump and those who support him has some people fearful that if they admit it, they would lose friends over it.
