If you have had hominy, you have had them... Hominy is in some Mexican soups as well, like pozole & menudo..

Tastes like it too. At least the stuff I had. A friend made it for breakfast one time. Maybe it was the fact that it was after a night of staying up till 2am drinking Brandy Alexanders and giggling like school girls that made it less than palatable. lol

Has anyone tried growing their own shrooms? I got wine cap mushroom spawn today via Fedex that I ordered last month. Going to cultivate it under the deck where it will get dappled light and good air circulation. Also got black oyster mushroom spawn to try out!

And po boys. Only been down there once. Did not like the food at all. NOLA is a cool place though. Mr. Owl's youngest sister and family moved down to Houma a couple of years ago; her husband got a job there at a museum. They love it! Their house is on a good-sized pond, and they have their own gator. I asked her the other day what they named him. She said "Oh shit." lol

So there's hope for the sweet corn this year after all? They do produce some short-season varieties so maybe that's what they're going with?

Man, that Chinese sure sounds good.

We went to the town-wide rummage sales this morning, had lunch in town, then took a nap too. Absolutely beautiful day!

There soil is a bit sandy,so it drys faster than here.
But no matter what Ohio is only growing a third of the usual crop.

Bummer. Last year Meijers had local (Ohio probably) sweet corn on sale for 10/$1. I bought dozens and dozens, blanched them, cut the kernels off, and froze them in a bit of melted better. We had them off and on most of the winter.... and almost as good as fresh!

I'm wanting to try to grow some, since its such a vibrant area for them. We threw out a bunch of wood ships, when the maple tree had to be chipped up. Mushrooms have been growing out of the area for awhile. They were golden, to brown in color. I like Shiitake, and might grow them if possible, and those black oysters interest me. The forest around here have wild morels, if you're patient enough to find them.

Yep, that seems close but it should be ok unless it gets cold early this year..
