Default Founding Fathers: possibility of a Trump-like POTUS reason for impeachment clause.

They knew it was possible that at some point in the future, some mentally unstable incompetent buffoon like Trump could worm his way into the WH and so, they created a mechanism with which to unseat that person.

Let's hope that there are enough sane Republicans in Congress with enough political spine to put that mechanism to use before it's too late.

Conservative columnist: Founding Fathers had Trump in mind when they included impeachment clause

A conservative Washington Post columnist wrote Thursday that the Founding Fathers had President Trump in mind when they added the impeachment clause.

Jennifer Rubin argues that Trump’s comments about the press could be a basis for impeachment.

“He is precisely the sort of person whom the Founding Fathers had in mind when they included the impeachment clause,” she writes.

Rubin, who is frequently critical of Trump, writes that his battle with the media and suggestions that broadcast outlets' licenses be revoked are a “direct repudiation of the First Amendment.”

“That’s not merely outrageous and indefensible,” Rubin writes. “It is, I would argue, one of many instances in which Trump’s words reveal an inability to carry out his oath of office.”

Rubin cites Bob Bauer, former White House counsel to President Obama, who argued that Alexander Hamilton’s definition of an “impeachable offense” is “one that inflicts ‘political’ injury on a society.”

“His self-interested ends justify the use of virtually any means—or at least any he could hope to get away with,” Bauer wrote about a leader’s demagogic conduct.

Rubin said that description “embodies Trump’s behavior.”

Rubin added that the president is “morphing into an authoritarian” who believes he is above the law.

You mean the Founding Fathers had a Clinton obsession also?

Been done this road, but it is hard to argue for the Electoral College today when a State like Wyoming has three electoral votes and it isn't as big as say Erie County, New York. (Buffalo)

With current demographic trends in the future two thirds of Americans will be living in urban areas yet rural areas will have two thirds of the electoral votes, can't believe the Founding Fathers envisioned that nor would they have approved

don't you just love wishful thinking and penthouse fantasy letters?

bottom line is that the partisan political bullshit both sides have been utilizing has destroyed this nations system of government, so congrats.
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

Unlike you and your liberal ilk, the framers were adamant about individual rights/freedoms especially those in the minority.

That is way beyond "rights of the minority" when States as Wyoming, not a State full of minorities of any kind, get more representation than other areas of Americans equal in size

Trump, the only president whose own cabinet members might have to tackle in American history.
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
