Default Senator Jeff Flake’s Candid Anti-Trump Book

Okay, conservatives. Here is a new book written by one of your own after the 2016 election. It appears to be the same type of book that Hillary wrote in the sense of asking "what happened?" Curious that there's been non-stop bashing of Hillary's book and she's out of politics, while a current repub senator's book gets no comments from righties.

"Jeff Flake is a relatively anonymous Republican senator from Arizona who has just published a remarkably forceful book, titled—in a nod to Barry Goldwater—“Conscience of a Conservative.” The book attempts to reckon with what conservatism means in the age of Donald Trump, and its power comes from Flake’s probing of his party’s complicity in Trump’s ascendance. “These are the spasms of a dying party,” Flake writes, surveying the anger that has consumed conservatism in recent years.

Flake tries to make sense of how hollow Republicanism proved to be when Trump arrived. “Never has a party so quickly or so easily abandoned its principles as my party did during the 2016 campaign,” Flake writes.

Flake began to write “Conscience of a Conservative” after a post-election trip to Mexico, where he’d had to reassure officials that the United States hadn’t changed. Back in the U.S., though, he started to wonder whether it had.

Flake makes an emotional case for immigration and against nativism and isolationism.... he denounces President Trump’s executive order banning Muslims from several countries from entering the United States...

Flake’s book is a start. So are the steady denunciations from Senator Ben Sasse, of Nebraska...

Thanks. I searched again and found it. None of the posters actually criticized Flake for writing a book; they disagreed with his content. The thread was started to criticize him for taking a position on birtherism.

Hypocrites like IHA, scaled cat and the others would never criticize Flake for having the unmitigated gall to write a book, as they criticized Hillary for writing hers. Self-deceit and dishonesty are all we can expect from them, and Hillary will live in their pointy little heads until hell freezes over.

Always glad to hear at least someone in the Republican party that has a conscience and a soul.

But, I have to ask, where was this Flake dude for the last 30 years?

The modern Republican Party was built on resentment, paranoia, racial resentment, and imaginary grievances. With rightwing hate radio and the wingnutosphere propelling the propaganda.

But I won't jump to conclusions, perhaps flake is being introspective about the grotesque and cynical history of modern conservatism, and self-introspection should always be recognized as a strength, something a person of high caliber and high character engages in.

I'm going to put the book on my reading list. Maybe, just maybe, he's a republican I can respect.

Flake is a conservative Republican with principles. Not saying you personally but he's the type of republican democrats have been calling racist and wants to kill grandma for decades. In the era of Trump he happens to stand by his conservative, I.e. Not populist, principles. But liberals aren't going to like him for still being conservative

You do realize pretty much the same thing could be said of the Democrats...

Like him or not, Sen. Jeff Flake seems to be a great man of principle in much the same ways as the other Senator from Arizona, Sen. John McCain. Time and deeds will reveal the true integrity of Sen. Flake.

    And the investigations continue,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Desperate times create desperate moves. The repubs now find themselves in very desperate times. They cannot possibly find any ways whatsoever that might be in compliance with the promises made by their lord and savior, lil' donnie trump.

    And the investigations continue,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
