What makes you think that Those laws would be substantially different given a different political party was in control?
Do you really think if Republicans were in control that they would change State and local laws that create enough new housing construction that would meet demand enough to lower housing cost?
You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic!
I'll offer you a couple of responses to this.
1) republicans and Democrats love to compare Texas and California, so I'll do that here. Why do you housing prices in Texas stay relatively cheap even with all the growth that they had? Because they encourage and allow new development. So when prices start to rise developers start to build bringing prices back down. We don't do that in California.
2) what do you Democrats say Republicans always want to do when they take office? Two of them are reduce environmental regulations and to deregulate. Research California's CEQA environmental law and howbit is used as a weapon to stop development. And compare the cost and amount of time it takes to get project approval in CA vs Texas for instance. That can be changed.
high population and high demand (same thing actually) would not be a factor if there was also high supply......land is limited by how many units you can build per acre (otherwise known as zoning).......as for coastal areas, you realize that there are housing shortages in eastern Los Angeles as well as Malibu, right?......in essence "desire of local lib'rul residents to preserve the "existing quality" (otherwise known as NIMBY) is what Cawacko is talking about......
The irony here, from a political perspective, is democrats often accuse republicans of having a "I've got mine screw you attitude"
Well the "preserve existing quality of my neighborhood" attitude is the ultimate I've got mine F you yet it's Democrats in this case who hold it

Capitalism, free markets and greed is why housing prices are so high in this nation. Its real estate jackass' like dump who drive housing prices up to make a profit. Racist white men have been redlining and producing segregated city's, and sundown towns for decades and you want to try blame progressive liberals. GTFOH with that nonsense.
Why didn't republicans do something about these "disasterous zoning laws" when they were in office in CA?
And just so you know, your argument is right in line with those on the racist right. It's a argument to deflect from the truth.
Once again, you are defending the right.
Wow, once again TTQ64 shows she has no understanding of how markets work. Zero. Absolutely clueless.
