Well it is patently obvious that you've never given a moment's thought to the aftermath of the war. Why you would want to deny that starvation and disease killed many ex-slaves is plainly obvious, as it doesn't sit well with your false image of the realities of war. Lincoln caused the deaths of over 1.5 million soldiers and black slaves, the fact that you can't get your head around it is neither here nor there. Let's face it, you're away with faeries most of the time anyway.

What Happened to Civil War Soldiers After the War?
By the 1880s soldiers began to reminiscence about the war in memoirs and regimental histories. But yet there was still a population in both the North and South that drifted from soldier home to soldier home, from town to town, jail to jail and some (perhaps many) living their last days in insane asylums.

Most returned home, picked up the pieces, and moved on. But some could never find that peace.

The first step was returning home. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers traveled by train, horse and foot. Southern soldiers often had the hardest time getting back to their loved ones. Upon returning home, some soldiers might have found that the life they had left behind was gone.

Slavery and the Hollocaust are both stains on our societies but because we did not commit the crimes of the Hollocaust, slavery is our stain. 2,000,000, possibly more people died being transported to the USA, I have not seen the number of those that died once they arrived, but once here they were treated like livestock, bred, maintained and sold for value as labor.

The thing that makes the Nazi Holocaust so shocking to me, is that is was industrialized murder, clinically executed, and conducted at an immense industrialized scale over a relatively short period of time, and as a matter of genocidal state policy. We also have living victims today who can testify to this appalling evil .

The evil of slavery and the Jim Crow south was that it existed for centuries, even though people knew it was wrong. The very words embedded in our Declaration of Independence contains the rhetorical seeds that ultimately destroyed slavery. While we do not have living testimony today of the Middle Passage, and the conditions under which slaves were held, we know with crystal clear certainty that millions of people, perhaps tens of millions, were abused, kept in bondage, raped, beaten, tortured, and murdered at the complete whims of the slaveholder overlords.
