Personal question, how far is acceptable to you in terms of taking down monuments of ex-Presidents, or remaining of schools etc?

I hadn't thought of this one but we do have a Presidents Day holiday in honor of Washington, Lincoln et al. One could at least make the argument that we as a country have a day off to celebrate slave owners/racists

I think they should be honored for their accomplishments, but students should be shown their flawed thinking that women and blacks weren't considered their equals, only white male property owners were considered prominent enough by the founders. We can not white wash these men of history, they were not perfect men and we are not a perfect nation. I think when we start to embrace our faults is when we start to heal as a nation.

I have never ever been a big fan of monuments honoring individuals, anyway. I really wouldn't care if they did away with all of them. I've never understood the need to idolize people.

OTOH, we could learn a lesson from Dr. King who emphasized character. Thus far, the rabid hateful fascist mob has shown their character, so we should be allowed to judge accordingly.
