Let us not forget for how long confederate cemetaries, monuments and battlefields have been in existence. While some insist that hate groups like white nationalists/ supremacists and the rabid mob counter protesters feel emboldened since Trump's election, I stipulate that much of the past administration's discourse is to blame, and it is why a guy like Trump was elected. Of course he makes the perfect scapegoat, he is the perfect example of male white privilege, emphasis white.
Trump and Obama are symptoms of a disease that is rooted much deeper. We have to ask ourselves what we can do to heal the wounds, to cure the disease instead of expanding and widening the gash.
Hatred isn't the answer, destruction isn't the answer, nor are ignorance and violence. I see both sides thumping their chest and engaging in hatefulness instead of coming together. The past will be the past, regardless of statues and monuments, the present and future is ours. We can set an example by being different, by being loving and compassionate and tolerant, even if we don't all think and look alike.
Be better, don't be just as hateful and ignorant and vile and despicable as the ones who were hateful and ignorant and vile and despicable.

I appreciate your sentiments. Unfortunately the 2 main partys only play to their base
I'm not going to list examples of which are more egregious -long term they both are.
One of the reasons I voter for Trump was because he was an outsider- Bernie was also to an extent,
and certainly compared to Ma Clinton.
Do not support political parties is what i do -if given the choice I look towards independent candidates
or vote out the stale sameness that infects them all once they get to the Swamp. Never give the parties any money
