Feel free to erect all the statues you want of David Duke, Bedford Forrest, and Jefferson Davis on your private property. These men are clearly heroes to you.

But statues of rebels who fought on behalf of slavery and took up arms to kill American soldiers serving under the Stars and Stripes has no place in our public commons.

This is an interesting question. Considering there are "protests" both to get rid of, and to demonstrate the will to keep the same monuments. Which side is "stupid" in your opinion? Is it both sides (not hypocritical) or just the side that protests against what you want (hypocritical)?

This is part of a national conversation. The question: How should we remember the Confederacy?

I prefer to remember it as the losers in a war fought to destroy this nation. How do you think we should remember the Confederacy?
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

If not you should go -Gettysburg battlefield is so large you can drive most of it.

Let the men who fought there answer your question of how the Confederacy should be remember

Washington, D.C. — President Harding receives veterans of the Confederate Army who have been attending their annual reunion at Richmond, Virginia. Old soldiers who fought under the Stars and Bars during the Civil War are shown here with the president, who welcomed them to the White House.

Race hustlers like BAC, TTQ, Damo and 3D get all warm and squishy inside thinking that tearing down these monuments is effecting some change.

Can't you see those black lives mattering now? Hey look the black graduation rate just increased 50%, black unemployment decreased 90%. All because a statue was torn down. Kudos people. Kudos. You all should feel very proud. Mark this day to share with your grandchiLdren.

I actually have no social justice motive in all of this. I just hate the south, the former CSA, and everyone who celebrates southern "heritage" and/or is an apologist for the CSA. Wrecking monuments to losers is just my way of saying "fuck you" to the memory of the CSA.

If other people have different motives for joining me in the beautiful destruction, I can live with that.

we get that Mr. ISIS. what some of us are looking at is what is called putting things into perspective.
I'll not waste keystrokes explaining that to a self-described hater.

Your perspective is wrong, comrade Russian, because, it invariably means stating things about the CSA which are false.

no you moron. It's not about "southern heritage". It's about the men in battle.
I actually agree with you in terms of flying CS flags over public property and accoutrements.

What I showed ( so far ) in this thread is how the Civil War perspective was dealt with by the nation
in the aftermath.photos might help see how we incorporated the event thru the years
One again -it's about the men who fought bravely

Let them fight in museums and cemeteries, where they belong. Do you think enemy soldiers fought bravely against us in other wars?
