Fifth grader creates device to prevent hot car deaths

School is out for the summer for ten-year-old Bishop Curry of McKinney, Texas and he’ll be spending a lot of it developing his idea to help prevent deaths related to hot cars.

He calls his design, “oasis” and with the help of a GoFundMe campaign, Curry has already raised over $20,000 to help develop the device. The concept is shaped like a small box with ducts in a honeycomb pattern. Once it gets too hot, a sensor would tell the device to start blowing the cool air. Then, an antenna would alert local authorities and parents to come to the child's aid. He intends for it to be placed on the backseat headrests of the driver and passenger or to be placed on a car seat.

What an awesome idea! Great job kid!

Don't you need some kind of compressor running on electricity to create cold air?

Or maybe it uses some kind of coolant compressed in a can.

That canned air brush propellant comes out pretty cold. Maybe the device slowly releases the propellant, mixing it with the air being blown by the fan.

It would have to be fairly close to the child, though. Maybe clipped over the top of the rolled up window.

But really, if a person had the presence of mind to hook up a contraption like that prior to getting out of the car, they probably wouldn't leave their kid in the car to begin with. The kinds of people who tend to leave kids in hot cars are usually not the kind who would go through the effort and expense of installing one of those things.

I heard a local news guy say after reporting on this same story, that he used to take off one shoe and put it in the back seat when he had his kid strapped in the car seat.

You'll never forget to check the back seat if you get out with only one shoe on.

Overly complex and there are other items in the market. I applaud his ingenuity. He should apply it somewhere else though

Good lord, "intend". Really? You really the vast majority of people who leave their kids in hot cars "intend" to do so?

How can you be so cynical in a positive thread?

I am actually surprised at the negativity in this thread. And Nomad was the least negative, another shocker.

You guys have no idea whether this will actually work, but other smarter people are investing in him and that money will better help ensure it does work and even if it doesn't, his idea could help the next inventor to create something that does work.

This a 5th grader for pete's sake. And you guys are bitching.

    lol.....

    You just never know..
"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

If you read the many sad stories of parents doing this, they had no intention of doing so. Maybe buying this device will serve as 1. a reminder and 2. a safeguard.

Most of the stories I read of are of inattentive parents. If this device by a 5th grader, saves one life, why the F are you bitching about it?

It could become a built-in safety feature.

Go get some salve for your pussy Alice. I am not being negative on the kid. I am just speaking in reality.

But hey if you think it makes sense to go up against Walmart and Evenflo then be my guest.

Here is a little test to see how much you believe in this idea. Why don't you go invest $500,000 in the idea.

If you knew anything about business you would realize that from a manufacturing standpoint $20,000 though a GoFundme isn't shit.

I applaud his ingenuity, and I agree that it is an issue. But as I mentioned, it is already being tackled with better technology.

So kindly go fuck yourself buttercup
