Police and security services investigating the suicide bomb attack in Manchester, UK, on Monday are looking into the connections and history of the man who detonated the deadly blast.
The bomber, Salman Abedi, 22, a British man of Libyan descent, had spent three weeks in Libya prior to the attack—returning to UK soil just days before detonating an explosive at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena.
European investigators believe Abedi, whose parents Samia Tabbal and Ramadan Abed returned to Libya following the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi, may have had links to the Islamic State group (ISIS). His brother Hashem Abedi was arrested in Tripoli on Wednesday and admitted to being a member of ISIS, according to a Libyan militia.
As Collomb put it:But his visit to and activities in Libya have also prompted further investigation from intelligence agencies, which are working to establish whether Abedi made connections with radical groups in the country during his visit."All of a sudden he traveled to Libya and then most likely to Syria, became radicalized and decided to commit this attack."
Although it's unclear whether Abedi did make contact with ISIS in Libya, the country has become a hub for a number of militant organizations, including the Islamic State group.
After the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, and years of tumultuous governance prior to the eruption of a civil war in 2014, the power vacuum in the country led to the rise of ISIS in Libya.
In 2015, ISIS set up a stronghold in Libya’s port town of Sirte, which Libyan fighters seized back from the group in December 2016, thanks in part to U.S. airstrikes.
The group continues to have a presence in the country, which U.S. counterterrorism official, Nicholas J. Rasmussen, told The New York Times caused the government to be “very concerned,” particularly over fighters who could continue to maintain a foothold in the unstable country.
The gunmen who stormed a resort in Tunisia in June 2015, killing 38 people, were trained at a jihadist camp in Sabratha in Libya, reportedly in the same place where terrorists who carried out an attack at the Bardo museum in Tunis months earlier were trained.
And the man involved in a December attack in Berlin, Anis Amri, is also believed to have contacted ISIS in Libya prior to driving a truck into a Christmas market on December 19, killing 12 people and injuring 56 others.
The Obama administration carried out U.S. air strikes close to Sirte in January because suspected associates of Amri in Libya were there. Following the air strikes, outgoing Defense Secretary Ash Carter said: “Importantly, these strikes were directed against some of ISIL's external plotters, who were actively planning operations against our allies in Europe ... and may also have been connected with some attacks that have already occurred in Europe.”
The remaining presence of groups such as ISIS and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in Libya is still a challenge for U.S. and U.K. intelligence agencies, whose location provides access for fighters to enter into Europe.
Intelligence agencies will now be working to establish what help, if any, Abedi received in Libya ahead of carrying out the attack on Manchester Arena.

After US bombing led the Misrata Brigades to oust ISIS from their stronghold in Sirte last year,
ISIS melted into the background.
No doubt many ISIS members joined up with militia groups that have run Libya since the fall of Qaddafi
ISIS is now diffuse, and another factor in Libya that threatens to radcialize more of the militias
Yet more blowback from our destruction of Libya into the failed terrorist state it is now.
Hillary, Obama ,and NATO continue to have yet more blood on their hands

Here’s what the media and politicians don’t want you to know about the Manchester, UK, suicide attack: Salman Abedi, the 22 year old who killed nearly two dozen concert-goers in Manchester, UK, was the product of the US and UK overthrow of Gaddafi in Libya and “regime change” policy in Syria.
The suicide attacker was the direct product of US and UK interventions in the greater Middle East.
According to the London Telegraph, Abedi, a son of Libyan immigrants living in a radicalized Muslim neighborhood in Manchester had returned to Libya several times after the overthrow of Muamar Gaddafi, most recently just weeks ago. After the US/UK and allied “liberation” of Libya, all manner of previously outlawed and fiercely suppressed radical jihadist groups suddenly found they had free rein to operate in Libya.
This is the Libya that Abedi returned to and where he likely prepared for his suicide attack on pop concert attendees.
Gaddafi himself warned Europe in January 2011 that if they overthrew his government the result would be radical Islamist attacks on Europe, but European governments paid no heed to the warnings. Post-Gaddafi Libya became an incubator of Islamist terrorists and terrorism, including prime recruiting ground for extremists to fight jihad in Syria against the also-secular Bashar Assad.
In Salman Abedi we have the convergence of both these disastrous US/UK and allied interventions, however: it turns out that not only did Abedi make trips to Libya to radicalize and train for terror, but he also travelled to Syria to become one of the "Syria rebels" fighting on the same side as the US and UK to overthrow the Assad government. Was he perhaps even trained in a CIA program? We don't know, but it certainly is possible.
While the mainstream media and opportunistic politicians will argue that the only solution is more western intervention in the Middle East, the plain truth is that at least partial responsibility for this attack lies at the feet of those who pushed and pursued western intervention in Libya and Syria.
There would have been no jihadist training camps in Libya had Gaddafi not been overthrown by the US/UK and allies. There would have been no explosion of ISIS or al-Qaeda in Syria had it not been for the US/UK and allied policy of "regime change" in that country.
When thinking about Abedi's guilt for this heinous act of murder, do not forget those interventionists who lit the fuse that started this conflagration. The guilt rests squarely on their shoulders as well.

the arrests stretched from the normally quiet lanes of a northern English town to the bustling streets of Tripoli, where Libyan officials said they had disrupted a planned attack by the suspected bomber’s brother.

empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
pain in abortion.

our hands are full, but we're not helpless.
If Abedi was on a U.S.travel ban from Libya (which the courts are holding hostage) to the USA
instead of Great Britian, we would have had time to investigate his Libya/Syria travels..
IOWs: if that were a US terrorist plot instead, it would have in all likely been stopped.
To be clear - if the US Travel Ban was in effect. It's not.
Instead we sit and watch for our latest CNN Russian Connection fix.

I keep saying that a robust force should have been sent to Libya immediately after the downfall of Ghaddafi.
I Aldo said the other day that this was a direct result of the ineptitude of Clinton. Rana decided to burnish her vag badge and started pouting at that suggestion.
