Default Every green initiative has been a disaster

He is pretty much spot on here, huge sums has been wasted by ignorant politicians virtue signalling and burnishing their green credentials. Booker is specifically talking about the UK but the US is no different really.

The U.S is very different. They banned diesel vehicles, until they could run cleaner.

So V.W, and other companies (no doubt) simply programmed the cars to trick the emissions tests into thinking they were running cleaner than they were.

Now, millions of drivers, along with these companies, are screwed.

We have something called the MOT over here, every car over three years has to have an annual checkup which includes an emissions test. A diesel car has a CO limit of 0.50 gm/km; a NOx limit of 0.25 gm/km; a combined HC and NOx limit of 0.30 gm/km; and a PM limit of 0.025 gm/km.

I don't know what the emissions limits are here, or if they test for more than they do in Europe. I do know that for many years, my mechanic was hailing the mph of diesels that were not allowed in the U.S.

Then, as with coal, they simply named them 'clean', and voila! Diesel was everywhere. Now we're finding that it just isn't possible.

I will say that it's a little harder to smell a diesel car in front of you than it was in the 80's, but it's still obvious.

My point is that diesel cars seemingly pass the emissions test for NOx due I presume to the engine management firmware knowing this is a test environment. Diesel cars can be designed to emit far less NOx and some do but many don't, I can only assume that the reason is cost

It may well be in future but it's certainly not the present, as Germany has discovered to their great cost with the Energiewende. So it is you that is talking shite.

I do not accept the premise of your thread.

But more importantly, what is your motivation for being an advocate for more dirty and polluting technologies? Why are seemingly you such an advocate for coal and oil?

I am not, I am an advocate for CCGT, third gen/4th nuclear power and renewables when a cheap storage solution is found in the future. Unless there is a great breakthrough I can't see that happening any time soon.

I could explain all this to you in far greater detail but it most certainly would go over your head, as you are just not very bright and are a zealot first and foremost.
