It seems a mad idea, but Lithuania thinks it real enough to have reinstated conscription.
This is more than just Baltic alarm: Sweden signed a defence pact with the United States in June, and Finland is-trying to do the same. A recent Norwegian television drama imagined the country under Russian occupation. Meanwhile, in real life, Russia has formed three new motorised rifle divisions, with more than 30,000 troops, many of them to be sent close to the Baltics. And short-range missiles that can carry nuclear bombs have been delivered to Kaliningrad, the neighbouring Russian enclave.

It's a good thing that Putin is such a nice guy, and that the people of those states have literally nothing to fear.

it might look that way. I may try to emphasize (compensate) for the INSANE Russiaphobic western press/politicians
who run around bleating red white and blue NATO based bellicose jingoism .

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel"-if you want 1 sided Russiaphobic/Putin bashing
there are reams of it .
I suggest your first stop at the Brookings Institute.
You'll find the place crawling with Clintonistas and globalist neocons..

Frankly, our press only recently became Russophobic. The left had been passive and permissive for so long, and thus the media were, as well. It's only been because of this past election that the press had to pivot and adopt the present tone of the anti-Trump left.

the press was Brain Dead to Obama's feckless incompetence in dealing w/Putin.
I remember people telling me "what do i care if Putin opens up Egypt?"

Then when Crimea went down they all screamed like stuck pigs.

Crimea was one of those bold, brazen moves, where it was impossible to dismiss out of hand, but, you certainly didn't hear any hysterics even remotely close to these hacking conspiracy tirades.

well at least with Crimea there was something to squeal about.

The thing is we are not going to get Crimea back into Kyiv government -but it is possible to deal to get Putin out of Donbass

the the Baltics?? c.mon. it's about as worrisome as Finland..The entire NATO construct in eastern Europe is overkill.
It got that way by NATO expansion.
Why are we upping tank batallions in Poland? It's insane.
