Exclamation Did WikiLeaks Sound the Death Knell of Western Tech Dominance?

Exactly three years after the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines MH370 on March 7 2014 (17:19 UTC time), the international whistleblowing site WikiLeaks dropped a bombshell on how the US Central Intelligence Agency could weaponize just about every "smart device" on the planet.

The US intelligence community has turned the global village into a prison planet; one where bedrooms are no longer sacrosanct, bank accounts are no longer secure and national secrets can be retrieved from deceptively "secure" channels and archives. Smart cars can be remotely commandeered to snuff out pesky citizens who get in the way of a train wreck called the United States!

But what apocalyptic scenarios were Year Zero and Zero Day referring to? Did Russia earlier get wind of them? Did the election of Donald Trump finally throw a spanner into the works?

I have so many questions regarding this topic. Wikileaks has promised more to come.

Did the CIA bug Trump's campaign? Will global consumers start weaning themselves off products running on US software?

The entire basis of cyberwarfare is exploiting flaws in software in order to gain privileged access to systems. That's the entirety of what Vault 7 revealed. Should no part of the US government participate in that? We should just disarm ourselves and leave all that kind of research to the Russians?

Surely we have a Russian government in charge.

the danger is a self styled sovereign Deep State; not the CIA or even the IC

The IC is overwhelmingly privatized. That's why leaks like these continue to occur.

No. But I suppose it is better to be mass-chipped on the forehead and arms by the US. It makes things holier, I guess.

Bingo. There has been a very tangible deterioration in the quality of US intelligence outputs since 9/11. From fake WMDs in Iraq to the Russian bogey to conspiracy theories about Trump, fear is now a hot commodity to be peddled about.
