Default The Next President Will Likely Appoint 4 Supreme Court Justices - says Alternet

    July 27, 2016

"During the next four years, the new president will likely nominate not only Scalia’s replacement but also an additional 3 new justices. Since 1971, the average age of retirement for a Supreme Court justice has been just under 79 years. Ginsburg is 83, Kennedy is 80, and Breyer will be 78 in mid-August.

The new justices will set the direction of the Supreme Court and the values that guide it for the next generation. Scalia, after all, was on the court for 30 years before he died. Thomas has been on the court for 25 years and is still only 68."

Since Hillbag lost, let me say ...

The liberal justices there now will never retire while Shlump is in office.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a good 10 years left.

Before these leftists leave the bench under a conservative administration they will be shoved out in iron lungs if necessary. Mr. Trump could do as the last administration did.....let them pass away peacefully in their sleep on the Mexican border and then deny any autopsy and have the body cremated.

What I would prefer happen...while the right has the political power....promote a Constitutional Amendment placing term limits on all Supreme Court Justices...while having them elected to the bench instead of appointed.

If they had an inkling that Trump would win they probably would have, or she may have mysteriously been found dead in her bed

The oldest justice ever, retired at 90.

Term limits are always controversial. I like a "stable" court, so I'm in favor of lifetime appts. Against electing them because a great judge may be a lousy campaigner. JMHO

Pull one out of the FDR playbook and threaten to expand the bench to 15. That would get their attention.

    Why 7? ... why not 5, 3 or 1?

    BTW, I'm happy with 9.

Hmm, well if it comes to pass, I hope Trump will show some balance; while I am mostly conservative I think the Supreme Court, the most important body in the country, should not be dominated by either side. Would be nice if it leaned to the right though.

there isn't "sides" when it comes to the SC and the SC isn't about "representing people." It's about interpreting the constitution, that's it. Liberals lie and make up bullshit to shoehorn in their agenda, which creates the illusion of it needing to be "balanced"

    the SC isn't a seesaw.

Well, leftists aren't going to change anytime soon. Liberals and conservatives are therefore going to have to accept the view of a court in need of balancing.
