UN says disputed Falkland Islands are in Argentina territorial waters

Argentina has officially expanded the outer limits of its continental shelf beyond the UK-claimed Falkland Islands, following a UN commission ruling which increased its maritime territory by 35 percent to include the waters around the disputed islands.

According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the newly introduced continental shelf borders are based on an “unanimous” decision by the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, that ruled in Argentina’s favor earlier in March.

According to UN ruling, Argentine waters had expanded by 1.7 million square kilometers, which engulf waters surrounding the disputed Falklands, or as they are known in Argentina, Islas Malvinas. Essentially the UN ratified the country’s 2009 petition to fix the limit of its territorial waters at 200 to 350 miles from its coast.

“We’re reaffirming our sovereignty rights over the resources from our continental shelf, minerals, hydrocarbons and sedentary species,” Foreign minister Susana Malcorra said, when making the announcement. “I sincerely believe that is a very significant foreign policy achievement of Argentina.”

I've always thought that the Malvinas should be classified as Argentinian. It seemed to me that they were Argentinian geographically. Now the United Nations agrees unanimously.
How can the rule of law prise the dead fingers of British Empire off of them ?

Seeing as you are such an advocate of democracy, why won't you respect the wishes of the people who live in the Falklands and wish to remain British? Argentina only wants the mineral rights rather like China with the Spratly Islands, they couldn't give a shit about the people on the islands. The islanders have long memories and they remember perfectly well what happened last time the Argies paid a visit. They are quite welcome to try though, they would recieve a very warm welcome!!

Footnote: The Phoenix was termed the luckiest ship in the US Navy as it escaped the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, however luck ran out under its other name of the General Belgrano. It still remains the only ship to have been sunk by a nuclear submarine.

Ah, gun boat diplomacy in the face of the rule of law. No wonder the English are desperate to keep nuclear weapons in a country that doesn't want them. Their very own ' Samson ' option, eh ?

With regard to ' democracy ', why won't you respect the democratic wishes of the Argentinian people ? Don't tell me.......they don't have any real rights because they're foreign, right ? Fool.

And with regard to mineral rights it was the discovery of sea-bed manganese deposits which revived British interest in its distant occupied territory back in the 1980s. Bloody hypocrites.

Fuck you and fuck Argentina, they have no rights to the Falklands. Why don't you tell the UN to castigate Spain for not leaving their enclaves of Melilla and Ceuta in Morocco? The Argies are strangely quiet on the matter as well, I wonder why?

Well now, that's obviously an incorrect claim according to law. Do you realize that opposing the law by means of lethal force makes you a criminal ? Britain would become a pariah state. No wonder Scotland wants no part of your Westminster skullduggery.

What the fuck are you on about now? Scotland had its referendum and voted to stay part of the UK. We will also be having a referendum on EU membership, that's how devoted we are to democracy, fuckwit.

Piss-poor rhetoric from an obviously distressed and thwarted hegemonic individual. See you, Jiminy.

That was the previous referendum- the one before the English, such as yourself, vote to leave Europe. The Scottish won't want to be united with a UK whose character has changed. Divorce proceedings are already in motion.
