Clinton: ‘We’re Going to Put a Lot of Coal Miners and Coal Companies Out of Business’

Hillary Clinton said that her policies would “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business” during Sunday night’s Ohio town hall on CNN.








Clinton was asked by TVOne’s Roland Martin about her Democratic primary success in states that tend to vote Republican in general elections, and he wondered how she could carry such states once matched up with a Republican rather than a far-left candidate like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.).


Clinton has struggled against Sanders in states that voted for Barack Obama in 2012, losing such contests as Michigan, New Hampshire, Colorado, Minnesota and Maine.


“I’m the only candidate which has a policy about how to bring economic opportunity using clean renewable energy as the key into coal country, because we’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business, right, Tim? and we’re going to make it clear that we don’t want to forget those people,” Clinton said.


“Those people labored in those mines for generations, losing their health, often losing their lives to turn on our lights and power our factories. Now we’ve got to move away from coal and all the other fossil fuels, but I don’t want to move away from the people who did the best they could to produce the energy that we relied on.”


Clinton went on to say she had put forward specific plans on how to incentivize more jobs and invest more in poorer communities.

What a wonderful way to rally for votes, yep, green energy, hope, and liberal farts. The Democrats will kill all the jobs, scare off 50% of the tax base, leave the borders open for criminals and terrorists, but we can take solace knowing that some other Democrat-connected Solyndra got millions before it went out of business.

The problem with most emerging technologies these days is that they aren't developed by the existing companies, so the workers have reason to fear. Hollywood and Blockbuster Video didn't develop the Redbox machines, so they are dead dinosaurs (that was an incredibly shortsighted mistake, too. They could have also prevented Netflix). Despite the creation of Tesla, automakers have at least been smart enough to develop their own hybrid cars.

True. But my point is Clinton is the only candidate who is candid enough about the end of the coal industry to foresee and address the future problem of unemployed coal workers.
Politicians who pretend coal use will go on forever and coal workers will remain employed, are not being honest with them and do not really have their best interests at heart.

The coal industry has been hit by a double-whammy in draconian EPA regulations and cheap natural gas. The latter is market forces at work but the former was done on purpose under the Obama administration.

Obama promised to put the coal industry out of business and with the help of cheap natural gas he's on the verge of it.

Trump, or whomever, would do well to hang that promise around Hillary's neck and make her own it in the rust belt states.

The people who were once gainfully employed shoveling horse manure from the streets of our cities and running livery services, found themselves without a job as the auto industry expanded across America and horses became outmoded as a means of urban transportation
Coal workers are now finding themselves facing a similar fate.
Pandering to their vote by promising to keep the status quo and stop the advancement of technology is unfair and dishonest to these people, to say the least.
Many understand that now. Before long they all will.

Also, people involved in the industry are aware of how much EPA regulations have to do with decline in demand for their product. And when they hear Hillary say 'WE are going to put a lot of coal miners out of work' they'll know who not to vote for.
