New poll puts Brexit in the lead as David Cameron battles to secure renegotiation deal

British voters would back Brexit if the referendum was held today, a new poll published with David Cameron locked in EU negotiation talks has indicated.
A TNS poll of around 1,100 people found that 39 per cent of those expecting to vote would back leaving the European Union while just 36 per cent want to remain in.
The survey also revealed that almost three times more people believe the Prime Minister’s EU renegotiation has been “unsuccessful” rather than “successful”.

, taken between February 11 and 15, highlights the difficulty Mr Cameron faces in winning public support for his package of reforms.

It was published with Mr Cameron still negotiating with EU leaders in Brussels after less than four hours sleep following all-night talks.

Polls judging where the public sits on the In/Out referendum over EU membership have been erratic in recent months with both sides being given sizeable leads at times.

Experts point to the fact that many voters are yet to engage with the debate and differences between phone and online surveys – the latter tends to find more Eurosceptics – to explain the differences. The high proportion of undecided voters also adds to the volatility.

A TNS survey published on Friday found that 39 per cent of voters back leaving the EU, 36 per cent want to remain and 25 per cent are undecided – not including those who said they will not vote.
However the numbers switched when respondents were asked to predict which side would win, with more people estimating Britain would ultimately stay in the EU.

In findings that will worry Number 10, the survey also detected strong disillusionment among voters towards the Prime Minister’s renegotiation package.

Some 37 per cent said the negotiation had been “unsuccessful” while just 14 per cent said it had been “successful”. Just one in 50 people asked said the negotiations had been “very successful”.
The poll also shows that while Britons backing Brexit clearly outweigh those supporting membership among people aged over 55, the opposite is true for 18-24-year-olds.

John Curtice, Professor of Politics at Strathclyde University and one of Britain’s leading psephologists, said earlier this week that polls suggest Britons were unimpressed with the renegotiation.
“The publication of the draft renegotiation agreement at the beginning of this month has failed to move public opinion in favour of staying in the EU,” he wrote.

Prof Curtice added: “Voters appear inclined to feel that the draft agreement represents a bad deal, and have little confidence that you will end up with a good one.”

The UK should have been a tower of strength for the concept of European union- not a weedy wallflower scraping a profit with monetary exchange rates. It's the fag-end of Empire- and desperate for a Socialist government.

Good spread. I'm more Doc Watson, John McGloughlin, Kelly Joe Phelps, Issa Bagayogo and Maya Angelou. And Mohammed Ali, of course. It's hard to imagine Donald Trump even classified as the same species as such people.

curious as to what that "package of reforms" is all about. It doesn't seem all that popular with the voters..
