    Default Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue

How great is this? Models wearing bikinis has absolutey NOTHING to do with sports. Zero. And yet, they somehow get away w/ this every year.

I've gotta believe that the 1st meeting they had internally where someone suggested this, everyone just cracked up and said stuff like "yeah, can you imagine?"

Makes for a great way to sell magazines when there is little to write about otherwise. And the reward was instantanious as this issue outsells all others every year. Thought it was a nice bit of flair to coax the publicity shy Barbie in to it this year.

Haha, pretty true. I heard the impetus was the slow season between football ending and baseball beginning and what should they cover. Like you said can you imagine being the guy (I'm assuming it was a guy) who raises his hand in the meeting and said 'chicks in a bikini'?

Is it a big (or fun) competition between the photographers to see who takes the cover shot?

I am not sure, I'll ask, she was asked to do it. They saw her show in NYC and loved her photographs.

It was also a huge break for her! She was called by quite a few agencies after her shoot!

I love the swimsuit issue, at least I did as a teenager before the internet when it was often the closest thing to porn I could get my hands on.

I know nothing about the photography industry but I would think being on the SI Swimsuit shoot would be a pretty big deal.

So you support the objectification of women, good to know.

No, washer woman, I support my friend who was a starving artist till her break with Sports Illustrated. Her photos make women beautiful.

So it is not the fact that you know her that makes the difference?

I better check my mail, eh?
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

It was the fact she needs to eat.

I do not believe she objectifies the women, there may be those that look at her photos that do, but she loves photographing beauty women and capturing their beauty. I didn't not criticize her because, yes, I know her personally and I know how much she loves women and I know her art.
