I'm sure you're all familiar with the late Michael Harrington, who's activism, war on poverty and heartfelt speeches took the twentieth century by a storm. Never quiet about his critique of capitalism, nor unable to defend it, Harrington was revered as one of the most influential democratic socialist of his (or anyone's) time. He was the author of various titles such as Socialism: Past and Future and The Other America: Poverty In the United States, the latter of which spurred Lyndon Johnson to launch an assault on poverty. With the publication of such a title, Harrington gained a national reputation, becoming a leader within the left. So it's no surprise that he's known today as a genuinely good natured and optimistic man who preached a doctrine of hope. The end to his legacy would be the publication of numerous well known titles - he gained the time to write them with the help of his doctor.
