Default The vast majority of gun owners in this country are law-abiding citizens

Coalition Report: The Movement of Illegal Guns in America

In the highly contentious debate about the appropriate scope of gun laws, it is important to keep in mind two propositions that almost all sides agree on. First, the vast majority of gun owners in this country are law-abiding citizens; most gun crimes are committed by a small minority of the gun-owning population. Second, gun laws must be designed to keep firearms away from the criminal minority without infringing on the rights of the law-abiding majority.

Lets make up shit and post it like it is reality, and then throw an insult in for good measure.

    It makes this so effective.

Then learn to accept gun crime. As long as gun rights are non-negotiable, messes such as occurred in Colorado will be a by-product.

    That's correct.
What happened last night was horrific, but not at all surprising given the culture we promote and reward.

    freedom?
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

Now STY will give you the "freedom from government" and how AK's help that, and how the founding fathers wanted an Abrams in every driveway.

gun rights are not absolute. very few argue they are.

why is it you ignore sick mass murderers like the green river killer? do you want to allow hands? what about cars? they kill more people than guns. as long as owning a car is non-negotiable...messes that occur everyday across america will be a by-product.

do you now see how asinine your logic is?

You're absolutely correct that outlawing or banning guns won't solve this problem but to be honest I don't know to many people who advocate that.

It only takes a mere handful of bad guys to cause a serious public safety threat and that there are some compromises that would permit some common sense restrictions that would help prevent bad guys from getting their hands on these weapons. I don't see that being affective on the demand end as it only creates a black market, tramples on peoples 2nd ammendment rights and does little to prevent bad guys from getting guns. Something probably needs to be done on the supply side, such as limiting or restricting production of certain types of weapons for the general public. As Topper pointed out we would't sell tanks to the public and I'm sure Bill Gates could afford more than one if he were so inclined.

But then again as I stated earlier. If some nut wants to shoot 70 people with an automatic weapon and the are unable to purchase one, what's to stop them from creating and using an explosive device, toxic gas, biological agent, etc?

have you read posts from darla, bijou, topspin etc....? granted, they are in the vast minority, but there are people (especially on this board) who advocate that as a solution.
