Default Mother cuts daughter's hair in court, judge reduces sentence

This seems perfectly reasonable to me, what grounds could the mother have against the judge?

Seems a little harsh for something stupid a 13 year old girl does.

He ordered she serve 30 days in detention and to perform 276 hours of community service

It was voluntary, the mother could have said no.

    The haircut was....

but he also offered to take 150 hours of community service off the sentence if her mother cut her ponytail in his courtroom.

She still has 30 days of detention plus 126 hours of community service.

Two wrongs dont make a right, this girl has now been taught that she cannot trust elders to do the right thing.

None that I can see. The mother was under no obligation to take the deal. Her daughter could have instead had the longer number of hours of community service.

Yes, possibly considering that she will lose time from school.

Oh I disagree and disagree very much. She has learned that doing something wrong results in consequences. She would have learned that if her hair had not been cut....but I think maybe she also learned that mom will cave to pressure when it is put on her, whether by the judge or someone else...maybe even the daughter. I don't for a minute think that it was solely the mother's decision to cut the girl's hair. Either way, I hope the girl learned her lesson.

I hope she learned her lesson, I doubt that having the same thing done to her, and learning that your mother is not strong enough to protect her has been beneficial to her mental health.

I would not have cut her hair, I think community service is a valuable tool in teaching children consequences.

Not strong enough to protect her? The mother taught her the consequences of her actions. That IS protecting her.

No the mother was bullied by a judge to chop her daughters hair, 150 hours of CS would have been a much better lesson.
