Default US Border & Immigration Policy = $hit

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18705586...wsweek/page/2/

"However, another official familiar with the Duka case history said that the family asylum claim got stuck for 16 years at INS because of a bureaucratic paperwork backlog of more than 100,000 asylum applications. The official said asylum claims routinely sat in “filing cabinets” for a decade or more. "

Absolutely ridiculous. I say no more pork projects until this mess is fixed.

Unfortunately there are too many pigs in DC to ever hope that the pork will go away.

How does an organization amass a backlog of 100K and still call itself and organization. That's insane. And their incompetence is costing us our safety.

It is the same all over our country LadyT, fussing to build new roads and such and can't afford to repair the ones we already have...
Bush doubled the debt from 5 trillion to 10 trillion.
    Proving tax cuts work!

Bush asked for and signed for the TARP money.
The Republican senate leader backed Bush on this.

It at least amounts to 16 years in the US. Practically all asylum cases are usually rejected, even if sending them back to their home country will kill them. Also, whether or not they stay isn't based on human rights, it's based on whether or not they being killed would usually offend someone of their culture. So if you want asylum because sending you back would force you into an unwanted marriage and you'd be raped, and that's acceptable in your culture, you'd be sent back. I'd say let them hang on as long as possible.

Well, anyway, apparently they have to wait to here the case until they could possibly give them a green card for residence should their claims be justified. Which takes a long time. That's why there's a 100,000 person backlog.

I don't think a 100K backlog is at all acceptable. They should process people as soon as possible and grant them a green card unless they pose security or health threats.

If we grant these people entry because they request asylum they would not depress wages. They would expect the same wages as everybody else, they would be legal. Amnesty is just one of the ways one can enter the nation legally. They did what they were supposed to, it is our own ICE that has not.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

Depressed wages might be good for us in the long run. It might make us get off our butts and develop some backbone and grit. We have had it far too easy and are far too apathetic.

That's easy to answer. Quite obviously just another example of how inefficient the government is.

    Default Hummm...

Political assylum cases are complicated...it must be proven that a real threat exists...and a complete background check must be made...which is difficult in most assylum cases...what if someone that is a terrorist (not on the board) per sey...and assylum is granted and this person committs a terrorist act against the US...who would you then blame??? This all boils down to the illegal immigration issue...'amnesty' is what big business as well as some small businesses are asking for...the buck stops with them...Tom Tancredo said it well on a interview with the idiot Paula Zahn of CNN...!
