FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A Fort Collins business owner is being held on $250,000 bond in connection with the fire that destroyed a condominium complex that was under construction, causing $10 million in damage.

Police arrested Benjamin Gilmore, 29, Thursday night on charges of first degree arson, second degree burglary and criminal mischief. He is accused of setting fire to the condo complex at 311 Mason Street, in Old Town Fort Collins, on Oct. 24.

The fire also damaged Penny Flats, an adjacent mixed-use residential and retail building.

Gilmore appeared via video for advisement Friday afternoon. Prosecutors argued for the higher bond amount, saying the case was still under investigation and the fire risked dozens of people's lives.

Gilmore, who was wearing an orange jumpsuit, started crying as he asked the judge to lower the bond.

"I just want to go home with my wife," he said.

His wife, Rebekah, and mother, Virginia Gilmore, left the courtroom without commenting.

Gilmore and his wife own Cocopo's, which is a well-known and award-winning bee and honey establishment. He has been a daily fixture at the Occupy Fort Collins site in downtown Fort Collins where, according to demonstrators, Gilmore talked about getting rid of paper currency and using gold.
