and Yes. I do beleive Wisconsin is the best team in the nation right now.
I agree with Dan Wetzel about a 16 game Div 1 college football playoff. It would consist of all 11 Conference champs and 5 at large team. The at large teams to be selected just like in college BB by a selection committee. The polls would be used to seed the teams from 1 to 16 with the highest being matched against the lowest. The high seed would get the home field advantage through out the playoff with the exception of the championship game which would be played on a neutral site. If we had a play off and assuming the top 5 rated non-conf champions would get at large bids, here would be my brackets.
East Division Rd #1
Auburn vs FIU - Auburn
TCU vs UCF - TCU
Stanford vs Nevada - Stanford
Mich St vs Boise - Boise
West Division Rd #1
Oregon vs N.ILL - Ore
Ark vs OK - OK
Wisc vs Uconn - Wisc
OSU vs Va Tech - OSU
East Div Rd #2
Auburn vs Boise - Auburn
TCU vs Stanford - Stanford
West Div Rd #2
Oregon vs OK - OK
Wisc vs OSU - Wisc
Semifinals
Auburn vs Stan - Auburn
Wisc vs OK - Wisc
NCG
Auburn vs Wisconsin - Wisconsin

I also love the idea of the home field advantage. Could you imagine Wisconsin playing in the Swamp in January or vice versa the Gators at Camp Randall in Jan? SEC Teams would actually have to man up and play the game like it's meant to be played.

BCS is awesome. 16 game playoff kills regular season excitement.
SEC is 6-0 in the Big game, what's the Little 10. Ohio Slow is what 1-2

OK lost to Mizzou. No what they beat Oregon.

And that's hooey that a play off would kill regular season excitement. Hell you not only have the competition to win the conference or an at large bid but because of the importance of the ratings for how the teems get seeded, every game will count even more then it does for the BCS where, essentially, you lose one game and your out. With this format undefeated and you're rated #1 and have home field through out. 1 loss and your rated #5 or 6, 2 losses and you're rated #13 or are sitting at home. Then you get all the wonderful cinderalla teams from the non-big 6 conferences and man...can you imagine the match ups we'd get to see during the play offs.....and the best part of it all...is you can still keep the bowl games!

So... (for either Auburn or Wisconsin) they are to play their regular season schedule, conference rivalries, conference championship game (in Auburn's case), then on top of all that, you want to add 4 more games where everything is on the line and the competition gets progressively stronger? These are not professional athletes getting paid to prepare for games. They are young men enrolled in universities, with a whole different set of priorities and personal issues. I think you lack the understanding of how much preparation goes into a game, or how much of a physical and mental challenge it is already, to make it through a typical season unscathed. I just think you are asking an awful lot, to extend the season this way.
To top it off, the first thing you would encounter with such a system, is a barrage of phone calls and faxes from Bowl Chairmen, and community leaders, wanting to know; What the fuck? If you believe there is a way to organize a playoff system which completely precludes the current bowl system entirely, you must be smoking something really strange. That will never happen, there is just too much money at stake, and too many cities who's economics depend on that bowl game every year. You can't just up and decide those people are shit outta luck because you envision some pro-like playoff system. Then you'll likely have the television networks opposed to your idea, because it is much more lucrative for them to broadcast dozens of assorted bowl games every day of the holiday season, as opposed to your select few playoff games, which would have to be done fairly in terms of days off between games... so you're looking at trading a solid month of programing for a few weekends. Lot's of ad revenue there, I suppose some might not like that. Do you have answers for this growing mob of people? Because the mob just keeps getting bigger.
Well exactly, any reasonable idea for a playoff system, is going to HAVE to include the current bowl alliances. It's just not going to fly otherwise. I agree, the bowls could be used as venues for the 'playoff' games, and it would make them much more lucrative in terms of events. But this still doesn't address the problem of extending the season, and putting these guys through another 4 weeks of intense competition. I believe the season would need to be shortened somewhat, maybe even take away a couple of games from the conference schedule, but everyone needs to be in a conference where a conference champion can be determined, then a 'playoff' could be between conference champs. There are a LOT of things that would need to happen first, and it still wouldn't be a 'perfect' system.
I'm with Dixie on the extra 4 games. College kids playing 16 - 17 games in a season? That's the NFL right there.
They do it in High School. They do it in Div II and III college football. None of those arguments hold water. Besides, an NFL champion will play 23 to 24 games. 4 preseason, 16 regular season and 3 to 4 post season games.
Besides who says the Bowls would be done away with? It's only taking 16 teams. Nearly 70 Div I teams will play in post season bowl games. These are all nonsense arguments. A playoff would hardly dent these bowl games. A playoff would mean more money for the NCAA by nearly a billion dollars and it would mean more money for the college communities that host the playoffs. They'll be played in traditional college venues and not some sterile/antiseptic pro or municipal stadium. It's time this travesty ended and we had a true national championship in college football. The money spent would be spent in Columbus and Baton Rouge and Ann Arbor and Lincoln and not in Pasadena or Orlando or cities that don't even have a major college.
The first time USC plays a December playoff game in Ann Arbor on Nebraska plays in Tuscaloosa I promise you ya'll will all forget about the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl!

You continue to look at this only from the eyes of a fan who wants a college playoff system, and not as someone who has an interest in the current system. These cities who host bowl games, are not going to eat millions of dollars in revenue, so you can get what you want. Just isn't going to happen in this reality we live in.... maybe in Mott's Fantasy Land, but not in the real world. The moment you suggest that a national championship be decided someplace other than a current bowl venue, you've lost the entire bowl contingent, they are opposed to whatever your idea would be. Your plan will have to include the bowls in some way, or they will never let it stand. Unless someone dies and makes you the God of College Football and you can just ordain it into existence, I don't see your idea ever getting off the ground.
