Default Public Option Dead - Better, More Socialism In!

Great news - big breakthrough in healthcare. The Senate has sent their new proposal to the CBO for scoring. Their new proposal involves getting rid of the Public Option and in exchange expand Medicare coverage to people 55 and up (single payer!), expand Medicaid to people within 150 percent of the poverty line, and make a Washington State style Basic Health program for people within 300 percent of the poverty level.

Did you get that, conservtards? You pushed us far enough, so now we're coming at you with REAL socialism. And this version is gonna pass before next year. Enjoy!

Obama is making so big all in bets. Like I said under 4% GDP or over 8 % unemployment and NEWT's second generation will have dems back where they are comfortable. The bitchslapped stepchild of the republicans.
He could have taken the easy road to get reelected, the middle. But he went all in socialism redistribution with a little/lot buying of votes.
    we'll see if it works.

I'm going to withhold judgement until I see how this plays out.

That said, I've always been of the mind that simply opening up Medicare to everyone who wants it makes more sense than some flimsy "public option". No doubt, Medicare has the capacity to make us all socialists. I'm convinced that a lot of people in the age 55-64 age bracket would gladly give up their piece of crap private insurance for the security and effectiveness of Medicare. Presumably, this plan has more potential to enroll far more people into an evil socialist health insurance than the so-called public option.

The downside might be that only the most sick people - the people the magical free markets won't insure - would sign up for Medicare. Degrading it's relatively stellar historical cost effectiveness. That said, it sure will be hard for the octogenerian teabaggers to whine at town halls about keeping "your government hands off my medicare!" once it becomes clear to them that Medicare IS a government insurance program.

ROFLMAO... it's stellar cost effectiveness? It will be bankrupt within 8 years as it stands (so say the trustees of Medicare). Not to mention the fact that the ONLY reason Medicare rate increases are a percent lower per year is because the doctors/hospitals pass along the difference to those in the private sector. Eliminate the private sector and THEN who will pay for the monstrosity that is Medicare (and Medicaid).

Article on Medicare's troubles.... (you know... the one with stellar cost effectiveness)

Yeah, let's include everyone who comes into this country whether they are legal or illegal. This will be the death of the Democratic party.
McCain to Obama. "If you don't like our bill, send troops to help us."

Obama, himself attempted to filibuster Justice Alito, who now sits on the Supreme Court.

There is much to be said in favour of modern journalism. By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, it keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community.

Medicare and Medicaid are both run poorly and we've lost billions of dollars. The unfunded liability right now is in the trillions. How does anyone expect government run healthcare to be any different? It's insane.

It will slowly encompass everyone and the tax increase will be a lot less than what the average person pays for insurance now. Other than one or two exceptions every country that has universal medical pays less than 1/2 the US average. And even the exceptions pay less than the US.
