Professional forecasters raise expectations for US economy in 2024

NEW YORK (AP) — This year looks to be a much better one for the U.S. economy than business economists were forecasting just a few months ago, according to a survey released Monday.

The economy looks set to grow 2.2% this year after adjusting for inflation, according to the National Association for Business Economics. That’s up from the 1.3% that economists from universities, businesses and investment firms predicted in the association’s prior survey, which was conducted in November.

It’s the latest signal of strength for an economy that’s blasted through predictions of a recession. High interest rates meant to get inflation under control were supposed to drag down the economy, the thinking went. High rates put the brakes on the economy, such as by making mortgages and credit card bills more expensive, in hopes of starving inflation of its fuel.

Judge Juan M. Merchan wrote that Trump “appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside. However, this view does not align with reality.”

When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.

I strongly suggest that anyone who follows the talking heads that discuss the economy, fully examine the ulterior motives of said talking heads.

Just as trump somehow pressured the Fed to slash interest rates to zero, the Wall St. firms who predicted gloom/doom, as well as those who guaranteed that the Fed would HAVE to cut rates in early '24 did so because it was in their own best interest. Every time some moron predicted that the next Fed meeting would bring rate cuts, the Market responded positively.

Further, one really needs to pay attention the to same players who are maintaining higher prices/profits simply because they can. They will point the finger at Biden, while bragging to shareholders about how they are ramming high prices right up the asses of the consumers.

For all the whining on social media, most consumers are doing very well despite being taken advantage of by corporations who have near monopolies.

Lest we forget that the Fed pumped billions into trump's Market during his eponymous virus. Corporations got billions, and instead of creating jobs they increased dividends and drove share price higher via stock buybacks.

That all ended when Biden took office, and the market is still expanding.

Yes, it is. America loves Bidenomics!!!

    Average 401(k) balances are soaring

The average balance 401(k) is $118,600, which is a 14.1% increase from the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Fidelity, which is the largest 401(k) provider in the U.S.

Americans often invest their 401(k)s in mutual funds or ETFs, which can include stocks and bonds.
The strong performance of the stock market has lifted values of the holdings in these accounts. The other factor is an increase in contribution: In 2023, 37% of 401(k) Fidelity savers increased their retirement contribution rate.
The average total savings rate, which includes employer contributions, is 13.9%, according to Fidelity.
Fidelity’s expert say the positive trends in 401(k) balances are a reminder of the importance of long-term investing and patience with your 401(k).

The other side of that coin is that consumers are getting raped at the grocery store as corporations reap record profits due to 'inflation'.

Yes. I remember the Red Wave predictions.

You can thank Alabama for trump's impending loss.

Biden was on the late show 2 days ago and spoke like a well-mannered intelligent man. Trump is a fucking joke with his stupidity. All he does is attack everyone, call them names, and insult those they work for. You have an unfounded and incorrect belief.

Inflation is not economy either. Artificially 'adjusting for inflation' is just a lie.

Actually, it was the AP, and correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t you the poster who repeatedly, and I’d have to note quite incorrectly, employs “ad hominem”
