Yes, it was a Cessna, but a Cessna Citation - a small jet engine-powered craft with a cruising altitude of up to 43,000 feet. You need a pressurized cabin to fly that high.

Yep, as I posted earlier the occupants likely asphyxiated prior to the jet running out of fuel and crashing - like what happened to Payne Stewart.

Just going to sleep. Back in the day when I was flying out of Miami, whenever the drunks got too rowdy, we'd bump the cabin altitude up to 7,000-8,000 feet and they'd all go to sleep.

This is a drone, but similar to helicopter flight: it's 9mb so slower wifis may take a bit to load.

No, it was a Cessna Citation business jet.

These are pressurized and almost always fly routes at 25,000 to 45,000 feet in altitude. They are pressurized because at those altitudes you die in minutes and pass out within seconds if the cabin depressurizes.

This accident has the same indications as the Payne Stewart crash; another small bizjet that lost pressurization at high altitude. It flew on autopilot until it ran out of gas. The F-16s sent up to intercept reported seeing the inside of the cockpit and passenger windows iced over. All were probably dead from hypoxia before it ran out of fuel.

    Fatalities: Fatalities: 4 / Occupants: 4

    Narrative:
A Cessna 560 Citation V disappeared from radar screens and crashed near Staunton, Virginia.
The four occupants died and the aircraft was destroyed.

ADS-B data show that the airplane conducted a course reversal about 1h15m into the flight, the airplane flew past the reported destination of Long Island MacArthur Airport (KISP), New York, and continued on a straight path for about 50m. The data shows that the airplane began a rapid descending right spiral from 34000 feet, followed by another spiral at 20000 feet, the last ADS-B return showed an average rate of -28864 ft/min.
About the only good thing about this tragedy is that they probably didn't suffer, you think? Just fell asleep. Otherwise the pilot could have taken the plane down to an altitude where there was oxygen.

Just fell asleep. If the pilot had a medical issue, there one of the other passengers could have been seen in the cockpit since there's only a little curtain on bizjets.

I'm certain all were unconscious before the plane rolled and dove. One report said they were descending at 28,000 fpm, which is too fast for them to regain consciousness before impact. Even if they began to stir, the impact would have meant instant death.

Plus if they were aware of pilot problems, they would have had cell phones to at least alert someone.

...not that it would have done them much good.

I always have to shake my head when newscasters lament "no distress call was sent". Well no shit! The pilots were a little fucking busy! Part of Flying 101 is Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. A pilot in the middle of an emergency who hasn't set the plane up for flying and pointed in the right direction before calling on the radio is an idiot.
