People receiving government assistance like SNAP, Medicaid, and other welfare and social assistance programs should be held to standards that will move them off those programs as quickly as possible. I'm guessing it was as much political self interest and the knowledge that Republicans would get most of the blame if the economy suffered as a result of their recalcitrance, that was the driving force behind this sudden onset of a cooperative spirit.

On some levels, perhaps, but keep in mind, none of this was necessary, McCarthy himself never felt it was necessary during the Trump Presidency when he eagerly approved the debt ceiling twice with no questions asked, he created the issue this time around to appease his freedom idiots

It is impossible for me to find anything encouraging about Kevin McCarthy.
