Default Does the House GOP have any understanding of the debt ceiling and its consequences?

”Freedom Caucus says ‘no further discussion’ on debt ceiling until Senate passes House GOP bill”

“The House Freedom Caucus is calling for “no further discussion” on legislation to raise the debt ceiling until the Senate passes the bill House Republicans approved last month that would pair an increase in the borrowing limit with steep spending cuts.”

    https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4...ouse-gop-bill/

These same hypocrites gladly raised the debt ceiling twice for their Messiah even while he was setting new records adding over eight trillion to the debt in only four years

I really think these clowns have zero understanding of what the debt ceiling actually is, and the consequences to the country if it is not passed. From their perspective, it is only a tool they can use politically regardless of the harm it can cause the economy and all Americans, actually, the way they look at it, any resulting damage is good, more ammo for 2024. Not quite what the Founders had in mind

If that's the position, prepare for a default. I suspect the markets are going to react badly to this.

I'm not a Democrat, but I AM AGAINST CUTTING SPENDING.

I would not want the people to spend less...and (even more) do not want the government to spend less. Unfortunately, the entire of our economic system is built on people spending more.
ON HIS WORST DAY, JOE BIDEN IS A BETTER PRESIDENT THAN TRUMP WAS ON HIS BEST DAY!

the complete lack of economic understanding from the left on full display
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

Please, regale us with your brilliance. Are you fine with a default? Why or why not. In your own words. This should be good.

Cutting defense spending would be just fine with me. Cutting anything that provides a social safety net? No way. We need to spend more not less.

They know exactly what they are doing. The GOP does this every year.

If you gave a shit about spending, you would have said something while Trump ran up an $8 trillion deficit. Since you said nothing, your opinion means nothing.

Unless there is a Republican in the White House. Then they pass a clean debt ceiling bill. Democrats ALWAYS will pass a clean debt ceiling bill. Because that's what should be done. Period.

They also don't seem to understand that it won't be the POTUS who gets the blame -- it will be them. Unlike the idiots who put these asshat clowns in congress, the rest of us know on whose shoulders any fallout will be. They need independents to win. This is not how to woo them.

If someone gets the blame, that would mean we defaulted and our economy is in the deepest recession since the Great Depression. Default would make 2008, and even Covid look like a picnic. It can't happen. it is the one thing that should NEVER be used as a political tool. Which means, of course, that's exactly what Republicans will do. But in the end, even if McCarthy has to make a deal with Democrats, we will pass a debt ceiling bill. There is talk that Democrats will save McCarthy's speakership if that happens. Seems like a long shot, but you never know.
